Lovely sportsmanship shown btwn the two. They both finished, in a fair bit of pain.

First two heats were very slow. Willis should be able to qualify here even if he misses out on the top 6.

Willis cruised it. Used no energy and got through.

If we want to go any higher up that medal table we need 3 more golds :(

    Spain is on 4 golds.

I'll be happy if we finish 14th but we'll have to keep winning to stay there.

That 4th Spanish gold post-dates my comment.

But yes, effectively one more gold will see us leapfrog Spain again (where the rain falls mainly on the plain).

However, 3 more golds and we'd be right on Australia's arse.

Yep. Is pretty wide open after the big American favorite Jen Suhr. Last nights men's comp showed it only takes one big vault out of nowhere to cause a big upset.

Her PB, 4.80m, would likely be enough to medal. Particularly if she had a clean card with no misses right up to and including that height (a much bigger ask).

If she gets any sort of medal, I'd give her sportswoman of the year, no question. An athletics medal in a reasonably glamour event is not to be sneezed at. I suppose if she got bronze and Carrington with her gold, you could argue.

It'd be funny if the Willis autocorrect worked the opposite way around when you're actually trying to type 'Willis'.

Meech wins bronze. Great effort to hold onto his spot, as he had to rely on the Gold and Silver medallists to fuck up to really have a chance of a better medal.

The 49er FX Women just started their 12th race, followed by the 49er Men's 12th race at 6:05am. The women are currently first equal, with not much space between them and the third and fourth placed crews, so this and the medal race are hugely important. While the men have a huge lead and if they do well enough in this one, could coast through the Medal Race and still pick up a Gold medal.

Burling and Tuke have pretty much guaranteed a gold medal. They're 34 points ahead of the Germans now.

The results in the 49er FX Women race weren't as good but Maloney and Meech are still only one point behind the Spaniards, Brazilians and Danes, who are all tied for first on 46 points. It makes the medal race on Friday pretty simple, as those four will basically just be racing each other. Beat the other three three and you get gold, get beat by the other three and you don't get anything.

And finally, the Kiwi pair won the Nacra 17 Mixed medal race with ease but it wasn't enough to get a medal, so they finish in fourth. Still some great work in that race though.

She and the American who fell with her have been added to the final. Sportsmanship pays off!

Burling and Tuke are guaranteed a gold medal - the medal race is double points, but the maximum available points is 20,and they are 34 points clear.

I watched the QF Aussie vs Serbia girls Bball last night. What a game by Serbia. I thought they would crumble at the death, but it was OZ who tightened up. OZ didn't respect the ball and turned it over a million times. Serbian guard Ana Dabovic was on fire. Her mid range game stunned the Aussies I think.

The men's QFs starting tonight are going to be massive. All 4 teams from Pool B finished on 8 points, just points diff separated them. The Boomers play Lithuania and the Nth America vs Sth America is back with Argies v USA. That is going to be firey and the crowd will be in the Argies corner.

GB is a medal factory at the moment. I remember when they were a laughing stock in the 90s Olympics. Not just cycling they are winning medals left right and centre.

Women's 470 will start the medal race in the silver medal position. Great recovery job as they had two disqualifications. Without those they'd probably be in the gold position because they won at least one (and I think both) of the DQ races. Instead they're no chance of gold, but they're pretty clearly the best of the rest, so with a bit of luck they'll medal - it's very tight though.
