Carter has been Val's bridesmaid for the best part of ten years. She has great shot put pedigree as her dad is still the American high school record holder and won an Olympic silver in the 80s before going to play NFL. She is a worthy champion who pulled off an amazing PB when it counted most.

Plus, Americans have proper out of competition testing which is when people dope (no one's stupid enough to be on the juice at championship). This is not like being beaten by a random Belarusian who has spent the winter on a diet of steroids and anvils in Minsk who then throws like the Hulk in the summer. -

There's four rowing finals featuring NZ tonight:

1:32AM Men's Single Scull Final (Mahe Drysdale)
1:44AM Women's Single Scull Final (Emma Twigg)
2:06AM Women's Eight Final
2:27AM Men's Eight Final

The two Eight's teams had to qualify via the repechages, so set your expectations accordingly for those.
-
Gold yeah. I can't believe he wasn't silver. Looked like he was pipped on the post. Have no idea why the Croat gets silver despite a tied time
-
Up into 13th spot on the medals table. Will be damn hard to go any higher than that. Even a gold in the next race leaves us 13th

Edit: no 12th -
Love the 8s. It's one of the best Olympic events.

Val has come out and endorsed Carter as clean. But Murca ain't beyond reproach in the drug stakes ... Jones, Flojo, Lewis... -

Hopefully those of you not experiencing Inverdale's inimitable commentary style directly through BBC coverage will nevertheless have heard about what happened following Drysdale's photo finish?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/olympics/2016/08/13/sir-steve-redgrave-and-john-inverdale-in-on-air-spat-during-bbc/

Reserve's intervention to stop Inverdale in his tracks and stop him ambushing Dysdale before NZ media had first crack was brilliant to watch. If Sir Steve want already a knight, I'd be starting a petition to have him knighted. -

Is he incandescent with rage? -

The men's Black Sticks suffered a terribly disappointing end to their Olympics campaign today. They were leading 2-1 until the final minutes of the game and then Germany scored two goals - the last one 40 seconds before full time. Absolutely gutted for them to lose their spot in the semi-finals that way. Not sure whether Richie was in the crowd ...

40 seconds before full time. 1.5 seconds no?

Gutted!
