Needed to revive a general cricket thread to mark the retirement from commentary of My Dear Old Thing.
"I've got no last word because handing over to next commentator has always been an adventure for me," he said. "That ladies and gentleman is the end of it. It's been wonderful talking to you. I will miss you something dreadful, I must try not to fall over when I hand over to the next commentary who I think is going to be Ed Smith. How lovely."

He was an acquired taste - when I was young, didn't 'get' him at all, but warmed massively to him as I watched more. Wonderful commentator, I don't think we will see his like again.

Last of the great commentary team of the 70's
Arlott, Johnstone, Blowers, CMJ, Trevor Bailey, Trueman with the bearded wonder Bill Frindall doing the stats. All overseen by Peter Baxter.
That's why Aggers is good He trained with the greats.
Blowers had a Downton Abbey upbringing as part of the landed gentry. Family estate has raised generations of Blowers' since the 16th century. Blofeld the James Bond villain is names after his Dad who went to school, with Ian Fleming.
Now who is going to count the pigeons and the buses.....
