@rembrandt agreed.
Granted there are some who have no choice (sickness, and those partners on the same sickness benefit looking after thier partner - these are the ones that deserve more help) but too many are rorting the system and I'd say there is a decent amount who are multiple generation beneficiaries.
There’s a big difference between genuine need and offloading the consequences of your shitty life choices on to the rest of us . I don’t think she’s aware of that.
Course she’s aware of it. She just doesn’t think we should be judging. What she’s not aware of is how much many of us despise her arrogance. People work hard doing real jobs and pay tax to fund all this. Pay them some fucking respect.

There are Helen Clarke quotes from the 70s that the aim of welfare is to free women from a patriarchal society.
Always view these announcements in that light. It’s not about helping poor people, it’s an attempt to restructure society.
Yup, Davidson always talks about dismantling the "patriarchy" which means dismantling capitalism in modern regressive leftist speak.

It's the arrogance of thinking they know best, and that they are holier than thou compared to the rest of us, mixed in with the sheer stupidity of their "policies" which is so hard to stomach. Agree with your earlier post, shine a light on these fucking idiots as much as possible to ensure they don't get re-elected.

Ok , so Augusto donated to Labours 2017 campaign and in return we pay for three of their staff to follow Ardern around New York taking snaps and video for the 2020* campaign
*if they last that long

@jegga Yup. If they are going to do an overhaul, I think they need to improve communication and relationships with medical sector so people with genuine illnesses/injuries aren't treated like shit, and more support is offered. Under no circumstances should the unemployment benefit be equal to a week's wage. This should be a temporary stopgap to help someone find another job, not a lifestyle option. If a person has been on the unemployment benefit longer than a year continuously (I don't have a problem with people getting a bit of help between seasonal jobs) then they need to have hard questions asked, not airy fairy ones.
-
@jegga when I heard them talking about that last week I assumed it was some American company whose services they had engaged.
Apparently all above board though and allowed under the Parliamentary budget or something.
Bit of a crock really, and hypocritical of her/Labour.
I wonder how much this trip has cost the taxpayer; Cindy, Gaylord, Neve plus the 3 hangers on, and whoever else managed to get in on the jolly.
Be over 6 figures, easy!

I wonder how the working people they claim to represent are going to react to a campaign based around videos of her and Gaylord traipsing around New York?

Well it's nice to see she's already got her post-PM career lined up. Even managed to check out places to stay and no doubt schools. Pity she'll have to go through the motions with the plebs in NZ for a couple more years. The price you have to pay I guess.

Your first point about the medical sector is a real issue. ACC came from a good place but the differential between people who are injured accidentally and those who can’t work because they’re unlucky enough to get cancer, for example, is really unfair.
And long term care is just as unfair. It can’t be right that someone who injures their brain getting in a car drunk and crashing it gets better provision than someone who does everything right then has a stroke.
-
@jc Completely agree. And if the person is dealing with new meds or harsh treatments, lots of doctor and/or hospital treks and all the related side effects on the body plus stress and anxiety, the last thing they need is some idiot caseworker hounding them for paperwork every month, or the portal between the medical centre and the agency not fucking working, and benefits being stopped because the medical cert sent didn't arrive.

There’s a shortage of rental houses in NZ , the government decides to weaken the rights of landlords and....

@jegga as with most things, it is the minority of scum bag tenants ruining it for the rest of the people who just want somewhere nice to live, and on the other side, there will also be some scum bag landlords taking advantage of those in desperate need of somewhere to live.

For sure, if you’re a feral though your chances of finding a rental just got tougher .

NZ First want to implement a "values test" for new immigrants. Labour are against it.
This government is the gift that keeps on giving. Well it would be if I wasn't an NZer...

I really feel for a lot of landlords out there given the absolute deadshits they have to deal with when trying to rent their place.
-
@no-quarter the people who we lived next door to at our first home, put me off wanting to be a landlord.
Not that they were bad as tenants, just they were cnuts as neighbours, which meant the landlord didnt give a rats as they kept the house tidy and and WINZ paid the rent on time.
They did get annoyed when I used to ring him at 2am, then 4am...to let him know his tenants were having another party.
I'd hate to be a landlord and have to deal with those types as well as the disrespectful cnuts that damage property.
