My phone tells me there's cricket on.
Looking into it deeper, they thought they'd be able to play cricket in Dunedin, in mid-March?
WTAF?in fairness, one of the drier months by the look of it.
Did the Otago Rail Trail a while ago. An info board had Dunedin described as a 'mild climate'. I lived in Dunners, I would not choose those words.

Apparently was 20+ degrees the last few days. Today, 11c and rain.
-
Was excellent weather here in Christchurch the other day when we won comprehensively - 9 wickets in 10.1 overs. Naturally, had to have the drinks break at the end of the 10th over despite NZ only needing 2 runs... Obviously there will be advertising requirements etc, but it was a bit farcical.
Looks like we got off to a good start with the ball again today as well.

Timmy Seifert and Finn Allen taking the piss. 44/0 after three. Seven sixes. Awesome hitting.
-
@nzzp Yeah - to be fair, after writing that, I was reminded of a trip I did around South Island in 2020 - as COVID was building momentum. That was March - as I did Hokitika Wild Food Festival as part of it, and I caught the very last ferry back to North Island before they stopped... and I can't remember any bad weather - a month of motorcycling, and can't remember ever needing the wet-weather gear.

And a maiden to start! Ridiculous.
Small ground

that much**at all **about T20 ?It's an acquired taste. Like Moose Turd Pie
Administrators love them; they generate shedloads of cash.
But honestly, can you remember any? And 5 in a series is like 5 pieces of pie ... sounds awesome before you start, but soon overloads.
I watched a bit yesterday, but cannot get excited about it.

Saw the highlights, the size of the ground meant that Seifert and Allen were mishitting it for 6 - and when they connected, it was leaving the ground. The fact that no IPL players are playing makes it even more meaningless than usual. And the IPL now appears to be 2 months long and takes 74 matches to complete - how totally tedious.

A big hit in India I'd expect. And with always content starved media platforms too

Originally wasnt it meant for the IPL to slot into international breaks windows so no players would miss out playing for their national sides?
Not the case anymore not to mention the growing number if T20 leagues we have now (Pakistan, South Africa, West Indies, Oz etc etc..)these games vs Pakistan just seem pointless. (other then making $$$)
Ideally the IPL gets so big and bloated it eats itself and cricket stops having to revolve around it

Five pieces of pie is a great analogy for T20. If it's generating the revenue needed to keep the game (i.e. test cricket) solvent, then I'm okay with that. And it does produce classics from time to time (I still remember McCullum's century at whatever Lancaster Park was called at the time vs the Aussies and a crazy finish leading to a win in a super over). But mostly its light entertainment; fine but quickly forgotten, and becomes tedious in large doses.

Not going to happen IPL now is the most powerful beast in Cricket it generates billions nothing in cricket can compete with it.
The danger being it will get more powerful and kill off other cricket one day cricket is in danger of eventually being discarded.
I would hate to see it but the power in cricket are talking about it to open up avenues for more 20/20 cricket.
20/20 is where the money is with out it Cricket in general will suffer.
I don't watch the IPL anymore it is a monster and I now find it boring. -

It's not a compelling stay on the couch all day watch like test cricket. More like a check in check out on in the background sort of thing. Or check the 15 minute highlights after

it's popular as it's a short night out, few beers with your mates, see some big hits, etc. Which is fine, but doesn't keep me engaged long term.
