It would need to be soon. All indications were him changing to the Kiwis, after not making himself available for the Kangaroos and appearing for the Maori All Stars this year.
Is this true? The All Stars don't tie him to anything and he cares about Qld more than the Roos. He hasn't played for the Roos though right? Which would make him eligible for the Kiwis?
Like most players who swap I like to see them give it a shot, but not if they come on stupidly big money deals.
-
Is it contract negotiation time?
-
If only the Canes were given a fee for losing arguably the best player in the world then we would have the $$ to spend, unfortunately that's not how it works at a Super level so I can't really see this happening. If we do sign him however, the only real position I think he would be suitable at would be on the wing.
-
I suppose where there is smoke there is fire so to speak. He was named in the Kiwis wider training squad back in 2015 before being snatched away to play Origin. Both parents are Kiwis and spent some of his school years there, has expressed a desire to play for the All Blacks. See where this story goes, thought he was locked in to a long term deal with the Knights.

Ponga talks this up all the time.
He's not switching the knights are paying him a fortune

It definitely doesn't make sense financially, and if he does move a spot in the ABs isn't a given. What's he on at the Knights? 1mil plus?
-
Not sure how good Stephen Donald's tip offs are. He said the Canes were getting a couple ABs back for the Blues game last week and that didn't eventuate. Maybe we need to take what he says with a grain of salt.
-
lol yeah fucking right, he's on $1.3m a year at the Knights, and Origin payments are like $30-40k per match.
He, at 26, is going to come and play for the Hurricanes for a max of less than $200k, and hope he makes the ABs to make, probably less than his Knights income? I'll believe it when i see it.

Maybe he gets some 3rd party deals which push his income up like Benji and I assume RTS. If you've dreamed of being an AB it's possible you'll take that kind of pay cut?

it is contract season and his manager would be stupid not to sound out different opportunities, but reality of this happening are zero to none.
Anyway going to the Canes is like going to the Tigers..maybe final contract for retirement

Rude. That’s a shocking comparison.
Who wouldn’t want to be a part of an upcoming backline that includes Roigard, Godfrey, Higgins, Love, Proctor, Barrett etc.
Don’t think it would happen though.

I just love it when league players rediscover those boyhood dreams of being an All Black when contract negotiations are a foot. Warms the heart aye.

@Canes4life clearly there was bait all over that
