Double Olympic gold medallist Ellesse Andrews set a world record on the final day of the UCI Oceania Track Cycling Championships in Brisbane.
Andrews set a world record in the time trial, increased this year to 1000m to make it the same for both male and female riders.
This followed two world records by compatriot Bryony Botha in the womenβs individual pursuit earlier in the meet, which has been increased to 4000m.
This will set the benchmark for riders in the upcoming European Championships at Zolder.

Right. I saw the headline, and thought cool. But she's just the first winner of new category so it's world record
It's in the books now!

Both the TT and IP moved to mat h thr men's distance on 1 jan...
So Botha and andrews record were about 3rd attempt. But both are topof the game so deserve to hold them.
I felt like it was a missed opportunity to organize a track day on new years day and have my kids be world record holders π π -

I felt like it was a missed opportunity to organize a track day on new years day and have my kids be world record holders π πI've thought for years that NZ should host a Track and Field meet that kicks off 10 seconds after midnight on New Years Day - so that everyone who wins their event gets to hold an official World's Best. Be a good draw for some decent talent, I think.
