Black Caps vs England Series

I haven’t watched a test live in ages but I’m so glad I saw the first two days of this test. Great intimate ground, prices and quality for food and bev were pretty damn good. So freaking hot on the bank though with no shade. But it’s summer so expected.
The first day had everything I reckon. Great start from openers, slow middle overs and a real test of skill but some questionable shot making. Stokes bowled very well all day and probably looked the most dangerous to me. I love to hate that guy.
Finished with some great slogging as the 8 brews kicked in!
But the first hour of the second day was probably my most enjoyable as a cricketing tragic. A non believer would have hated it and myself and mates said as much.
Problem with 20/20 is it’s all one speed. Tests go up and down. Emotions change as much as the conditions can. It’s fucking great and I personally could watch forever.
We just frustrated the shit out of England in that hour. Santner was slapping everything, Not taking singles until ball four consistently with Big field changes happening. Great times!
Gotta say O’Rourke is the man. Proper pace bowling. Calm demeanour with no fear with the bat or ball. Also has an uncanny resemblance to a young Travolta, like a short haired Vinnie Barbarino. Hopefully he can have as long of a career.
Good win for us. Pity about the first test! -
Well, I feel flat.
One team don't seem to care if they win or lose (but probably would really, really hate if they ever had a draw). Who visibly gave up part way through the third test.
The other team organising a valedictory tour for a washed up quota guaranteed of his postion in all 3 tests because of feels and the efforts gone in to create a giant paper-mache camel rather than catching practice.
NZ had their 3rd biggest ever loss (by runs) in the second test. And their biggest equal win by runs in the third test.
Sums up 2 teams who have lost their compass.
But the postives: O'Rourke (and that is a huuuuge pro).

O'Rouke just needs some luck with the injury gods. Surely a Black Cap pace bowler is due some?

The thought of him, the ever improving Henry and a fit Jamieson fills me with all sorts of hope.
That trio might be an upgrade on Southee/Boult/Wags

I don’t follow NZ cricket enough to know where any of them actually come from

Technically out but that is a rough one. That barely clipped the varnish.
Was it missing?
Who would know? The technology is not accurate enough to make a call like that.

You’re right though.
It’s cricket, not rugby. Who gives a fuck where they come from for the BC’s.Who gives a flying fuck where they come from for Rugby then.

If the NZC base was in Dunedin I assume Mitchell and Sodhi would be playing for Otago now.
No as both their wives are from Christchurch so they both moved there to be near the wives families.
That was the reason not a national cricket base. -
@Bovidae said in Black Caps vs England Series:
@Chris That was my point as I'm sure they met their now wifes while being at Lincoln.
Not sure that is pure speculation.
And may not have a bearing at all.
Once Moose had kids they moved from Hamilton to Christchurch so they had family support for their kids. -
North Island winter training base is also at Bay Oval. Handy for seeing Black Caps and White Ferns around Blake Park, and nearby. My impression is that the White Ferns are there slightly more often, just with fewer T20 circuit opportunities over winter, but I could be wrong.

well played NZ, a good series of some mixed quality cricket, some sharp bowling, some big innings by some genuinely excellent, generational, players along with some terrible fielding, some shocking shots and some questionable commitment from England. England as inspiring and frustrating as ever, New Zealand with some very good players and some gaps to fill, so too England really.
Pleased to see Southee go out with a win, always liked watching him play and seems like a good fella off the field. Lovely to see him hit a few sixes too.
Watching England play Test Cricket in New Zealand is always a treat, beautiful grounds, full banks, great atmosphere, green grass, blue skies and a bit of movement off the pitch. If only you could work out how to play it at a time where it doesn't entirely destroy my sleep patterns.

Equals our biggest win which was against Sri Lanka in 2018
should have batted on
Not sure we had the choice ...
