Smith has been a really good addition to this test side. That run out was as cool, calm and collected as you can get.

And the only way you were going to get Brook out?

    All out for 280.

O'Rourke with a good catch in the outfield.

That's quite a middling score - which they would have taken at 43/4 but not at 217/4.

Or at least I wouldn't have but then would've.

Good to see a much better catching effort. Amazing the difference it can make

    Conway goes cheaply again.

Must be tempting even Gary Stead's patience. Though I guess he has 3 x50s in his last 10 test innings. But, he doesn't really look like getting a big score.

What a delivery. The luck goes the other way that time

@KiwiMurph Yeah - Little Kane gets a life back from the eight we gave away last time!

Tommy not so lucky - chops one on that he didn't need to play. Nothing shot.

That was amateur hour. Bat out wide doing nothing on a wide delivery. Terrible cricket.

@ACT-Crusader Tom has not scored many more runs than Devon over the last 18 months.

He looks organized, but then plays a loose shot and gets out.

Rachin edges one onto his pad and it balloons away for Carse to make a good catch.

    And we're struggling!

Kane gone - O'Rourke being asked to bat 20 minutes as nightwatchman.

Seems like an odd decision. He'll do well to survive that long and then what?

In the newspaper today: Latham is averaging 25.5 this year in 10 tests, and hasn't scored a century since Dec 2022 (in Pakistan).

But, it's Mitch who gets out and Blundell has to bat anyway.

    England well on top, now!

A nightwatchman for Blundell is ironic considering he’s basically been a nightwatchman for the batsmen below him for as long as I remember

I’ve probably whinged about it before but I hate the idea of a night watchman. Particularly given it’s likely they’ll have bowled heaps that day. A batsman’s job is to fucken bat even if it is for a few minutes at the end of the day.

I don't mind it for maybe half a dozen balls, because there's significant risk to an important asset - with very little to gain.

But, sending O'Rourke out with 20 minutes to play?

There's much I don't understand about our strategies!

Pushing Phillips down to 8 is a sensible decision by a totally not-a-rabble outfit.

Although it has prised the deadweight out of the number 6 position with a well deserved demotion below O'Rourke.
