Yes boys. Hard luck Waikato you definitely brought it tonight.
Talk about relieving.

Roe and Cruden have definitely been class tonight.
IMO Roe is a donkey and hurts his team for much the same reason as Christie.

He did some very poor passes, often well in front of players meaning they drop it. When his passes are accurate, they are fast, but not accurate often enough

Kiriffy comparing that to test footy is wild.
To be fair he hasn’t played test footy haha.
But for him to say that it must have been bloody physical.

Great game to watch as a neutral bounce the ball here or there and the result goes the other way Kirifi the point of difference in the last 20 minutes imo
Great post match coms as well from Kirifi
Congrats again Wellington but also big ups to Waikato showed plenty of heart did not expect them to get this close
My only hope is the Wellington public get off their backsides next week -

Odd comment to make from him, but that last 20 mins was a MoTM performance.

You mentioned you’ve seen a lot of Mathis. Where do you think he should play long term?
No.7 is his position, and where he plays club rugby/U19s. He is playing wing out of necessity (injuries). He often used to pack at no.8 at HBHS to use his speed off the back of the scrum.
Is he big enough to be a loosie at SR level?
Mathis is bigger than he was last year and I expect he will add another 5-10 kg in the next few years with S&C. I would be interested to know what his current weight is but Waikato don't put player info in the match programmes anymore.

Anyway, I am happy enough with the season given the number of injuries and youth of the team. Six of the starters are 21 or younger, with a few others of similar age on the bench. The key will be keeping them all and developing them.
The lineout was a big issue, not helped by having the three main locks absent. McWhannell is the lineout leader. I see there were also a couple of other U20/U19 players there, presumably as injury cover. One of those was the NZ U20 prop Will Martin who would have been playing for Thames Valley today otherwise.
