Going for 600 now and I’m clearly the only ferner who is remotely interested.
Mendis will be aiming for 200, the other Mendis for 100 and a declaration should see NZ at about 10/1 at stumps assuming Latham survives.
What is there to say, hah.
Mendis looking to equal Don Bradman for the fastest batsman to 1000 test runs. Only 11 runs away……13 innings it took him.
Interestingly a couple of slightly lesser legends than the Don did it quicker, Herbert Sutcliffe and Everton Weekes. Both 12 innings.

Interesting conundrum. If time was not a factor, how long would it take us to bowl them out? Haven't looked like taking a wicket since drinks in the last session!

They’ll get both individual milestones I reckon then still have about 10 overs at us before stumps.
We won’t get another wicket.

Well done Mendis boys.
600 up
Hundred up.
1000 runs in 13 innings up.
Double ton on the way.
Sri Lanka must be thankful some minnows have toured to help pad the stats so much
We are the new Bangladesh

FFS. Latham gone.
Don’t stress, their opener went early too. We’re still on track for 600 odd

Have we got past 26 yet?
Not quite.
In a lovely tribute to Richie Benaud we’ve gone to stumps at 2/22……or 22/2 as the rest of the world say.

Shit this Mendis kid goes ok, closing in on 1000 runs at an average over 80
Properly class act. Saw him bat live a few weeks ago and just looks like he’s got everything. Really hope he kicks on, would love to Sri Lanka have a world beater

Yeah always interesting to ponder if he’s the next KW/Smith/Root/Kohli or just a guy who’s had a fantastic start, did it in 13 innings to equal Bradman, worth noting Conway did it in 19 which is also exceptional.
They had Sangakkara and Jayawardene at the same time, I’m comfortable with them waiting awhile for their next legend.
The rest of the team are proving they’re fine batsmen too, kind of like the Black Caps used to be.

We'll need to play out our skins just to avoid being humiliated.
we are getting destroyed at the moment. Our chance was first innings in Test 1 - that collapse cost us the match.
Ugh. So ugly. I cannot fathom appointing Southee as captain with 6 subcontinent tests. In NZ, sure thing - but this is not a long term appointment and most of the tests he captains will be on dustbowls.

@nzzp Mitch Santner has had an absolute shocker of a series so far.
Timmy has scored one more run than Mitch and taken one more wicket.
But, by losing both tosses he's been more of a liability than Mitch!
Any chance Southee will get dropped as captain during this series and if so who takes over ?
Not KW, we need him to focus on being our premier batsman.
Not Latham either.
Mitchell ?
They need another 380 just to avoid the follow on, fuck me days

why not Latham?
He’s not exactly in vintage form either. Then again he does justify his spot more than Southee, especially with how his opening partner has gone of late.
Mitchell is more ‘new blood’ which I think the team needs
