Kane stat watch……
He needs 31 runs to beat the Pakistani spudhead who smashed us out of the 92 World Cup ( actually I shouldn’t resort to fat shaming, Inzy was a fantastic player )
33 runs will see him go past another Pakistani great and arguably their best batsman ever in Javed Miandad.
…..and then shit gets pretty interesting cos next up just 70 runs away is another member of the ‘fab four’ in Virat Kohli who just finished a test against Bangladesh and scored fuck all.
Kohli is the best all formats batsman, I’ll freely admit that but his ( relative ) test decline is noticable.
Joe Root will top the list when their careers are over and he’s a genuine chance to beat Tendulkars record but even then despite being a modern legend there will always be that nagging “England play so much more than anyone else” feeling to it…..
> I think Kane's test career stands up very well to Kohli's. Same number of runs but less innings. Kohli has to play on turning pitches in India but Williamson has to to play on pitches that often start off indistinguishable from the outfield.
Kohli certainly has the advantage in ODI's and T20's but not in tests.
It’s better. That’s the point I was trying to make.
In saying that he’s out now and we’re fucked

@MN5 Not fucked. Just a temporary setback.
Now unlikely to win it today. Will need to be patient and knock off the runs sometime tomorrow.
MN5, can you have a word with Damo about jinxes?
Jeez, and you guys thought I was bad !
I did predict a first innings lead though so I’ll stand by that.

Quite a way to go - but, returning to the Mitch run-out and the stranding of Phillips - and contemplating how many those two in partnership might have added is very annoying!
These current two need to stay together for the next hour - which the above two might readily have done!

Ah Jeepers, what a predicament!
Still quite a few to get and not much support left for Ravindra !
A terrible test from Mitch Santner, I think that might be it for test cricket for him……Matt Henry instead please
Conway might need to make way for Young as well.

I used to have high hopes for Young, but now I doubt he will be any better than Conway. Hopefully I am wrong.

We're paying $14 for the win; SL $1.08
So, yeah. We're relying on a miracle from Ajaz and WIll to hang around, and Rachin to work some magic.

Young gets nicked off a lot with those hands that go wandering he needs to cover 4th stump more.
Conway just is not fixing those technical issues that I mentioned about a year ago. Those issues are still being exploited by the opposition bowling analysts.
It is a worry they have not been addressed for 18 months now.
Until they do Conway is going to keep failing. -
Conways Blackfoot placement is non existent which makes him play either outside of the ball causing Lbws or getting bowled (that is why when he first came on to the scene he had a lot of inside edges.
It also causes him to play away from his body getting caught in the slips or caught in the covers as he has no balance or follow through.
And lastly he falls over to the offside when playing off his legs again Lbw or caught square on the onside.
All down to his Blackfoot which is just as important as your front foot to maintain balance, follow through and power in your shot.

This is very similar to Stokes at Headingly. Needed 75 runs, and got them in around 10 overs whilst Leach faced 17 balls and scored only one run. Much tougher batting conditions, but Rachin will need to do the same.
Patel/O'Rourke won't be able to last long in defence, and certainly won't be able to score unless it is off the edge.
No point throwing it away, but Ravindra needs to come out positively. If he gets out, so be it, but there is no point Ravindra ending not out in a defeat.

He needs to give Jeremy Coney a call I reckon
