@MN5 Ravindra looked as threatening. Bracewell for Santner, Henry for Southee
The former is basically like for like and won’t make a shred of difference.
The latter isn’t happening cos he’s captain even though it should
Henry should be there somewhere though, fuck having loads of spinners when they’re all shit. O’Rourke has been the pick of the bowlers by such a ridiculous margin it’s not even funny and he’s a pacer
Seeing as my positive approach didn’t work maybe it’s time to be more real.
VERY hard to see an early breakthrough and this niggly partnership will matter quite a bit in the final wash up. Lots of pressure on O’Rourke for a couple of early ones, if that doesn’t happen we’re fucked given the lack of collective effort by the rest of the bowlers.
We still have a very capable top order on paper but again, very reliant on one guy in particular ( with an honourable mention to Johns son )
Still game on, I’m being as positive as I can be.
Patel clearly read this and got inspired to tell me to shove it.
Great bowling, time for the batsmen to stand up !
Chasing less than 300 is definitely a boost

Conway's decline is depressing.
He was so good for so long

Is it what ? That 200 on debut seems a lifetime ago. I’m genuinely gutted for him.
The average has dipped under 40 now. How many more chances does he get ? Is Will Young worth a shot ? ( and he’s been far from convincing either )
Conway and Ravindra have both scored a big double ton each to pad the average and perhaps look better than they are. At least Daryl Mitchell is far more consistent.

Challenge with a lot of these guys (and the White Ferns also) is that we drop them and replace them with... umm... err.....
The expectations might need adjusting too.
Petering out to mid 30s seems to be the Black Caps way. I hope like hell Mitch’s son maintains his amazing form. He’s still fucken third in the world currently ! Having him and KW in the same team is pretty damn unbelievable really and he’s saved some blushes on a few occasions.
Jury still very much out on Ravindra too.
The cupboard isn’t completely bare. A player as decent as Henry Nicholls can’t even make the squad currently.

The first sentence was encouraging, the second sentence a fraction less so
Yeah but I think the point I’m ( badly ) making is Nicholls is in that sort of McMillan/Astle/Styris bracket……and those guys were all stalwarts of their era.
Actually Styris only played 29 tests…..but you get my point ( or not ! )

Kane stat watch……
He needs 31 runs to beat the Pakistani spudhead who smashed us out of the 92 World Cup ( actually I shouldn’t resort to fat shaming, Inzy was a fantastic player )
33 runs will see him go past another Pakistani great and arguably their best batsman ever in Javed Miandad.
…..and then shit gets pretty interesting cos next up just 70 runs away is another member of the ‘fab four’ in Virat Kohli who just finished a test against Bangladesh and scored fuck all.
Kohli is the best all formats batsman, I’ll freely admit that but his ( relative ) test decline is noticable.
Joe Root will top the list when their careers are over and he’s a genuine chance to beat Tendulkars record but even then despite being a modern legend there will always be that nagging “England play so much more than anyone else” feeling to it…..

That's a tough total. I just don't see us having the application or the technique to get over the line
I’m not allowed to make predictions on here but all I’ll say is I hope you’re wrong.
Hope is the killer

I think we are a chance.
All it will take is either one big innings of 120+ and a few chip ins; or 3-4 guys to get 50's.
We have enough batting for either eventuality.
We are one step away from a total collapse though

Shouldn't be. We have Ravindra, Mitchell, Blundell, Phillips and Santner to come. One or two of them are capable of getting some runs. All but Santner got runs in the first innings.

I think Kane's test career stands up very well to Kohli's. Same number of runs but less innings. Kohli has to play on turning pitches in India but Williamson has to to play on pitches that often start off indistinguishable from the outfield.
Kohli certainly has the advantage in ODI's and T20's but not in tests.
