NFL 2024

Move may happen due to the LA fires.
-
It used to be Lamar Jackson who copped criticism for his playoff performance.
Now it should be Justin Herbert.
A much improved season for the Chargers but Herbert gets touted as an elite quarterback with no playoff performances to justify the hype.
Meanwhile Lamar Jackson destroying the Steelers.
Steelers are the ultimate treadmill team - never bad enough to draft high - never good enough to legitimately challenge in the playoffs.
-
@KiwiMurph Herbert and Tomlin got smoked. Again.
I saw my first blocked goal for a touchdown! Crazy stuff
-
Herbert overthrew too often
Too hard, too far, not good.Lamar by comparison though has it easy as a QB. Henry has made them.very fucking hard to defend. Lamar can dish, take the run when everyone goes to Henry. He barely has to throw.
Lamar is surrounded by better players than Herbert and you can't ignore that.
-
First game was messy, but Stroud kept finding the play at the right time in a way Herbert wasn't able to
2nd game the steelers were just outmatched.

Part of that is Lamar himself as a runner though. Being an amazing runner is part of his skillset as a QB.

Yep. But he threw very well - he's picking his run and his pass and his handoff so much better. He's undefendable at times.
He is awesome to watch. And I have man-love for Henry (I have his jersey). What a Meast.
-
well, glad i got up early to watch that...
Denver are just not good enough to live with Buffalo. We were too conservative as well, and our run game isn't really good enough for that. The first drive was awesome, and then we barely had the ball after that.
The AFC is fucked. To even make the Superbowl you've got to beat at least a couple of Mahomes, Allen, Jackson, probably Joe Burrow as well. And it's not like the guys just below them in Herbert and Stroud are shit either.
-
Steelers fans have had enough of Mike Tomlin and the treadmill.
Lots of damning calls like "we've become the Cowboys, all legacy no relevance"
Ouch
-
Going into Buffalo was always going to be tough. Broncos put up a fight but didn't have the firepower.
Plenty to build on into next year though. Tough division, tough conference but there's a good young QB, good coach, good skill players, strong defence... the foundations are there.
-
oh, just making the post season was huge considering the preseason predictions.
We're sorted at QB it looks like, which is half the battle. Desperately need upgrades at RB and WR. And as always, we need a defensive stud to come from somewhere.
But this was a great season for Denver.
-
also i can't fucking wait for the Ravens v Bills
-
Yeah that's going to be awesome. Chiefs will be pretty happy to face Houston I'd think.
-
that was a poor game. Green Bay are a bit shit and the Eagles weren't good enough to properly put them away.
A bad play call on 3rd down, and then a bad throw/catch on 4th and that was game. -
Washington win with a last second field goal that goes in off the upright.
good game
-
McCarthy out as Cowboys coach
Cowboys join the coaching search.
There's a lot of complicated rules about when and how you can interview candidates during the playoffs - however Cowboys have essentially wasted an important week where they could have been virtually interviewing playoff assistant coaches.
Mike McCarthy linked to the vacancies in Chicago and New Orleans.
-
Don't follow NFL too much but in regards to the coach's being axed do they genuinely bring in new talent or is it more of a coaching merry-go-around where all the established coach's just swap franchises with each other?
-
They do bring in a lot of new talent. Offensive and Defensive Co-ordinators generally get about 50% of the jobs, while established guys get the other 50%. Teams are wary of getting guys with too much history and baggage - it's not like the NRL where guys can bounce to their 3rd or 4th team without much concern. Rare to see a head coach find a 3rd home. McCarthy will be one of the very few, I can't see Doug Peterson getting another gig.
-
Patriots hired first, and took Vrabel in what was a no-brainer. They knew who they wanted, ticked the boxes early on their "must interview" and then hired him.
-
Surprisingly competent from Kraft and the Pats. They could have stuck to Mayo for another season, but pulled the trigger and now are in a much better position. Now they should have just hired Vrabel last year, but at least they've recognised their error.
-
i still maintain firing a first time HC after 1 year is an average call. But, if they know Vrabel is better, then it's actually really good business (fixing a mistake 12 months ago as you say).
Takes guts for these guys to publicly admit they got it wrong
-
Yeah I think I agree with you. You've got to give these guys time to grow, build continuity etc etc. But if there's a clear better option there in the short and long term then you have to pull the trigger.
-
I am very much in favour of firing a guy after one year if it's not working.
It's a sunk cost.
You are only hurting yourself further the more you delay
A lot of the feedback on Mayo was that he had completely lost the locker room and just was not suited to the head coach role.

good game
How nervy was Gonzalez before that kick! More nervous ticks than Steve Smith
-

The record isn't necessarily important in the first year. IIRC Troy Aikman had a bad first season under Jimmy Johnson and it turned out fine. But if the players aren't behind him that is a deal breaker
-
i take back what i said earlier in the season, Sam Darnold is still exactly who we thought he was

defence has also been shithouse so far though too
-
Vikings O-line should be apologising to everyone though, they are getting smoked and the Rams aren't even sending big numbers.
-
oh please oh please oh please
Apparently Jerry Jones has spoken to Deion Sanders about the Cowboys job

Hah. If they get him early he could sell the house to get his kid at quarterback. Would be epic destruction
-
And it's back to the bench holding a clipboard for Sam Darnold.
Rams defense dominant, a playoff record 9 sacks.
-
totally one sided game over by half time, Darnold smashed in the big games he was under pressure in
-
Vikings specialise in QBs that put up useful regular season stats but fold in the playoffs
Kirk Cousins
Teddy Bridgewater
Case Keenum
Sam DarnoldCan young JJ McCarthy change the narrative
-
-
Texans at Chiefs at the moment.
Refs have a massive boner for Mahomes. Two major flags thrown for hits on him - neither worth a flag in my opinion. I'm a huge Mahomes fan, but damn. This shit is frustrating to watch.
-
The fucking Chiefs just will not die!!!
We all had to live through the fucking Patriots, and then straight in to the Chiefs era?
It's not supposed to be like this!

Refs and mahomes can go and eat a bag of dicks.
Mahomes flopping is a terrible look goin gout of bounds.
Refs calling a phantom roughing the passer - marginal. Refs letting him 'slide' in traffic when dancing and DBs are mid hit - that shit is not OK.
He's too good; doesn't need to do this. But if you're the face of the NFL, you get the calls.
