Chiefs 2025

Charlie Sinton also training. I thought he would be a good chance of being one of the NDC players.

Maybe someone can have a quick look at the photos posted in recent days to see who else is shown.
Other players I could recognize were Grady Forbes, Oscar Koller and Micah Fale.
-
Micah Fale might be another of the NDC players then. I had him on my list of possibilities. Maybe an outside back for the last position (e.g., Frank Vaenuku).

Ross's impending departure makes the loss of Kauvaka Kaivelata more puzzling. Josh Bartlett is now with the Highlanders so maybe Mason Tupaea gets a full contract.
I feel Benet Kumeroa has the goods to succeed.

He's more of a TH isn't he?
-
Yeah, not thinking about who might or might not want to switch sides.
-
Manasa Mataele in the 4th picture
-
Who is that in the 6th photo?
-
It might be Joshua Gray
-
Seems like Stevenson is off to japan
-
Ens should cement the fullback spot

I've just read that. Let's see if there is an official announcement. I agree that I would play ENS at fullback.
The Chiefs would still need another outside back to replace him.
-
When is Tepaea Cook Savage back on deck? Blake Makiri might be worth a look too.

I think March/April. A winger is needed more than a fullback with Trask and DMac also able to play fullback.
Anyone local can go along to this to see who is training.

Dewes replaces White. Gibbes replaces Filipo.

interesting they cite workload for Filipo stepping down, Maori All Blacks only play 2 games a year

Filipo is also the Waikato coach. I assume that he can now watch all SR games with his Māori coaching/selecting hat on, rather than having two roles.
Gibbes not coaching the NZ U20s is also a blow.

Looks like peniasi malimali is training with the chiefs

@Bovidae will be the 4th different U20 coach in 4 years
-
Stevenson is gone burger
-
Interestingly, he's absent from this training vid from what I can see

Are the ABs and AB XV players back in training yet? I know that Jacobson is there but he didn't go on the AB tour.
-
i wouldn't mind if Stevenson goes, he was very poor in 2024 grand final.
And it means we'll get to see Leroy Carter tearing up in Super Rugby
ENS at 15, 11 Carter, Narawa 14

Bit rough when the whole team played shit
-
@darylmitchell would you think this is the likely shuffle? Given the log jam at 10, would any of trask, jacomb or dmac be relocated to 15? Not sure how much time trask or jacomb have spent at 15 tbf
-
Trask was used at fullback previously with mixed results. I remember he was exposed under the high ball. That said, either he or DMac would be options at fullback. Jacomb is a 1st 5 only.
-
Please don't play Jacomb at 15.

@frugby said in Chiefs 2025:
Jacomb played 15 for Naki when Potroze played 10
And they were poorer for it.
Taranaki also used Slater as a flanker and Lennox as a winger, but what works in the NPC seldom works in SR. My point is that there are better options if you are moving a 1st 5 to fullback. I'd be happy with ENS at 15 and look to sign a new winger if Stevenson gets his release.

Looking to be Mataele or Malimali which doesn't fill me with hope.

Gray is there too. Malimali would probably have the inside running.

Oh for sure. I get the feeling that the Chiefs will want to get Jacomb on the field. I'd be surprised if we don't see DMac and Jacomb on the field at the same time, so it will be interesting to see which one plays 10, and which ones plays 15.
-
there are better options than Mailimali and Gray
Tupaea played the season for Waikato at 11, he makes big metres on the left
Wrampling has played just as much on the wing in his career as midfield
Daniel Rona also started a few games in 2024 on the left wing for Chiefs
-
@darylmitchell We're talking about a potential squad replacement, not a starter, or even someone who makes the 23.

Jacob off the bench and Dmac moving to 15 to finish the game (ENS to wing) seems like the obvious way to go here.
With Trask as well though, who was poor at 15 previously, I’m not sure how they will all fit in (with fingers crossed that injuries don’t solve this issue).
