Just been told the Highlanders won’t be streaming the game against Moana this Friday. Here’s hoping Moana are. Pretty disappointing to be honest, should be trying to get the countries eyes on super rugby before the season starts as promotion has been pretty poor so far leading up to this season.
Also the Wider training group isn’t far from being confirmed. They aren’t announcing it until after pre season finishes. Weird approach but I suppose that covers themselves with injuries etc.
No issue with the Landers not streaming the game. It should be the responsibility of the host team. I'm surprised Sky isn't interested. Get everything set up and run through at North Harbour stadium. Do we know what time kick off is? Surely the Landers will be aiming to fly there and back on the same day?
With the WTG, interested to see whether Lennox sticks around. Not sure who of the other lads apart from Haig are walking injured and need cover?
obviously the responsibility is on the host...but in the case where the host isn;t going to do it... this is the kind of extra mile that would engage with the fans IMO, an iphone on a stand and a couple of mates giving colour commentary streamed on the socials...rather than just giving up

Bit of a catch-22. The Highlanders argument would be they are a professional side, so any content they put out needs to be of a certain standard. With what Super Rugby is aiming to be, I don't think filming on an iPhone meets that threshold. For example, you wouldn't expect the Warriors or Real Madrid or the Chicago Bulls to offer that..
As you say obviously there should be a stream, but that is 100% on Moana Pasifika.

no disrespect intended, but just how much spare time do you have in your life that you would watch a Super Rugby preseason game filmed on a phone with a couple if amateur idiots providing "commentary"?

and i would say to them that those organisations would sort it out rather than just saying its not their fault, thats what a professional club would do

done it before, a couple of years ago some guys went around the preseaosn games (might have been NPC now i think about it) and did exactly that, filmed what they could, streamed it on facebook, had it on whilst working
the original fault is on MP, agree....its just a missed opportunity, i dont think "its their fault not ours" looks more professional than sorting "something out",and the idea everything needs to be sky HD broadcast now days is just naïve, engaging with social media platforms is a valid option

I am not sure they would - particularly for a game where I would imagine the only 'staff' travelling are those involved with the playing squad.
-
however, there is absolutely no way the teams aren't recording the game themselves, so they could put something out after the fact.
-
This is up to Super Rugby to set the directive. If they advertise the games, rhen make them accessible. Set out the parameters as to what level. Decide who pays, whether it is part of broadcast deals or the host teams responsibility.
Outline it to the franchises and put it in the operating agreements. That it should fix it.
Without the expectation. There is no reason to invest a few thousand to provide the service.
No point running an amatuer hour service. Do it well, or don't do it.
-
@SouthernMann i completely disagree, the whole silver bullet "do it right or not at all" is how we end up with nothing....and then wondering why fans arent engaged
"Without the expectation. There is no reason to invest a few thousand to provide the service."
i dont know....other than engaging with fans, starting to build some interest in the upcoming season

It comes down to who pays for it. There is an overall product expected. It will be viewed widely if created. It needs to be to a certain consistent level.
Fan engagement is hugely important. A video shot on an iPhone without a gimble or stand, by a wobbly hand, with comments from a intern, can do more harm than good to the image of both teams.
-
What will be interesting will be whether the Landers stream the Invercargill game on Waitengi Day.
-
@SouthernMann The Highlanders have said they are working on one.

They are trying to sort something out for that one. Whether it happens or not is another story
-
@SouthernMann agree to disagree, ive seen great engagement done with basic means, i think the next generation are far more accepting of amateur content, hell, i would say lots of people would rather hear commentary from someone younger than the old mates we get on professional services...in saying that the hand held gear you can buy from JBHIFI is better than what we use to get in the 90's
my club manages to film and stream all our games, we have a kit that follows the ball, our stats guy (volunteer) set up the elevated tripod on half way and off it goes, its HD etc. as Mariner says the team will be filming for their purposes with something similar, probably much better
-
One selection in the team to play MP will make @Kiwiwomble quite happy. We have one of our short locks starting too. Our bench specialist gets a run on start. At the end of the day, it is just a pre-season game that we won't even get to watch
