Reminds me of Phil Gould being in tears on TV....not cos an earthquake had killed thousands....not cos his child had died.....not even cos his cat had died......but the reason Phil was so cut up was because he was seeing his mate Matty Johns being pilloried ( quite deservedly ) by the media for his part in that group sex scandal a few years back.

The herald and stuff are both running stories about a possible merger. I guess that makes it official , I guess it also means that unfortunately some people are going to lose theirs jobs if they do merge.

The biggest disappointment from the Herald and Stuff for me is how they have crossed over into the sphere of the lad-bible and other social media based media outlets, who basically just trawl through reddit and take anything written on there as gospel.

It seems since the advent of social media, journalists can write an entire article based on one 160 character social media post. My most-despised of these types of articles are the "tributes pour in for teens killed in Police chase" type articles, where they just get onto the kids facebook pages where people write comments like "I never really knew you, but you seemed pretty cool. RIP" and then post photos of buildings they have tagged in honour of the dead kid in the stolen car.

I still tend to read both websites on a daily basis because it's the easiest way to keep up with what happening back home and there is no real alternative, but it's disappointing when the lead story on both newspapers is an update on what happened on the most recent episode of the bachelor.

Three of the top four stories on the Herald website today were:

- The bachelor: cosy couple, or showbiz sham?

- Bachelor runner up Naz confirms she had sex with Jordan

- Viewers slam 'disgusting' interview with bachelorette Naz.

The articles are rubbish, but the comments are gold about the Bachelor.

Especially now. Naz went full throttle trailer trash last night, and tonight we learn that Jordan and Fleur are no more. (And she got to front the media by herself cos Jordan has gone into hiding.)

That guy would have to be the biggest jerk off in NZ. I hope Fleur hocks the ring, goes on a let hair down holiday and finds someone awesome.

I didn't watch either of the seasons (honest), but the second bachelor seemed like a way shitter choice than the first guy.

The worst thing is that half of the women from the show now take aim at being B grade celebs and launching careers on the back of competing with 20 other women for the same guy.

I saw one article today where one of the bachelorettes had made a facebook post directed at the angry/slutty one saying that "young women around the country look up to us" and therefore they must act like role models. If my daughter ever looked up to either of them, she'd be locked in her room until she's 30.

I didn't watch either season either (see previous comments about no tv/fixed data) but the articles gave quite a rundown, and as I said, the comments are hilarious.

The people who watch the bachelor were clearly expecting another Art type, but Jordan was just a complete dick. Not funny, not fun, not smart, just bland as fuck, super immature, and totally self absorbed.

Interesting quandary for TV3 now. Dare they try again?

I see the top news today is more shite about The Bachelor, on both sites, so really if they merge it will just be one less website of shite.

Is great there is so little going on in the world that this stuff is top news and apparently the Bachelor dude should apologise to NZ males.

He's actually torpedoed his own potential with all this. Naz will no doubt get offers for some shock jock type thing where her 'straight talking bad girl' will fit in. But Jordan isn't a ruthless or charming bad boy, he's just a flighty loser who didn't even have the balls to front up after the dumping. HUGE difference from a marketing perspective.

With a huge proportion of viewers disgusted with him, who would hire him? He's got no experience or winning personality. Nothing from the show would indicate acting is a career he could master.
