AUPIKI 2024 FINAL: Blues v Chiefs Manawa

Blues v Chiefs Manawa
Venue tbcThe Blues will host but venue is up in the air. They’ve been playing at Bell Park (Pakuranga Rugby Club) for the past few home matches. Where should they host the final?
(a) Bell Park with temp seating
(b) North Harbour stadium
(c) Eden Park
(d) Okara Park, WhangareiI think a crowd of 5,000 would be a really good crowd to aim for and if they can cram that kind of crowd into Bell Park with temporary seating stands, that would be a good outcome. Otherwise, I think Northland’s strong support for the Black Ferns during the World Cup has earned it the right to be a serious contender.

Well, the Warriors could reschedule if they're worried about their audience being affected. It's not up to NZ Rugby to cater to them.

Somehow I don't think it's the Warriors that are going to be hugely affected by the clash...

I’ve been following the season. I really like the speed of play but this year there has certainly been a big uptick in defensive steel - not surprising given the increased pre-season and preparation time. Even the blowouts have been hugely entertaining. It’s great rugby. They play rugby the NZ way. England have the wood on them at the moment but I would never ever want NZ to play like England with their endless mauls and ref-enabled cheating at the ruck.

@Auckman Kinda struggling to see the crossover from Wah's fans to womans rugby, would seem to be like someone complaining that Taylor Swift and Metallica are playing at the same time.
But I guess fabricated hoo-haa is all the rage these days, especially if you can appear morally virteous while doing it.

I agree. I doubt the Warriors fan base give a toss about women’s rugby so it’s a good point. They wouldn’t even care about their women’s NRLW

Really?

“The final time and date are set by the national body and the broadcaster at the very beginning or when the schedule’s set out and that’s often in advance of the NRL.” Hore said. “We can’t really change things based on what other codes are doing.”
the next thing you probably would’ve said is, ‘Why are our athletes not playing at Eden Park for a final?’ “There’s an element here too that Eden Park is where our athletes wanted to play. They said the end of their season - to be able to play at Eden Park - was important to them

Just how many people did the NZH think would turn up to watch? I hardly think they're missing many from the Warriors or netball anyway.
-
@antipodean I think the NZH live is bizarre fantasy land under the belief that in Auckland an Eden Park sized number of people peruse their weekend newspaper selecting which sporting event they absolutely will attend regardless of who's playing or what sport it is.
As opposed to the possible reality that, you know, sports enthusiasts don't attend every single sporting event no matter what it is, and maybe have only a few sports they are interested in and follow. And out of those they're interested in maybe only one or two they would shell out their hard-earned cash to attend as a special event or to purchase a season pass for.
You know like a normal person.
