@NTA I know how you feel as years ago I had almost a season ticket at the Judicial Sub Committee hearings of the Wellington RFU for a year or so and sometimes the referees reports were not exactly close to what I saw my boys allegedly do. I invariably had to bite my tongue as Club Officials have to be seen supporting and backing referees and just had to accept what their reports said were gospel (when often they weren't). In those days the minimum penalty was always three weeks (for a send off or after three yellow cards) no matter what so after taking showing support for the referee into the equation, there was little point in putting up a spirited defence as it would make no difference whatsoever to the standard three weeks stand down.
I did have a couple of minor victories (three or four weeks instead of the expected six weeks) for some more serious offences with some astute, but not referee bashing, defences though. -

Bit late now, but what did the other team have to say about it? I'd have hoped that the phantom-headbuttee would be willing to vouch that it didn't happen
They don't do judiciary to that level. Refs report. Red card recipient attends with a club official.
Also: the guy who supposedly got the "headbutt" yelled out my player was a "fat fluffybunny" and a "pig" so I'm not expecting him to submit a stat dec in our favour.
Plus I cited the fluffybunny after the first grade game for kicking our captain - clear as day on the video - so not expecting him to help at that point 🤣

Yep. Refs are God. Short of conclusive video evidence to the contrary, you're fuct
I did have a couple of minor victories
I managed to get two red cards down to a week. Both dissent. One was even time served as it happened 3 minutes in.

Talking to a mate in team I used to manage over here 20 odd years ago. Just after I moved to Aus he had got a red card for supposedly punching someone. Thing was I had a fella I had worked with was into video stuff and I had him videoing all our games, was still doing it after I left, and mate got off because of video. He asked the judiciary if he could get a formal apology as his family were all there when he red carded. No go on that , but he said he wante to make point etc.

@Dan54 asking referees to admit they're wrong is like searching for a unicorn. 😉
I've put in adverse reports for referees before and at least got a measure of understanding. One guy even quit this season because I pointed out he was just plain rude to my players, and the refs coordinator had a chat to him about it.
It comes down to referees being thin on the ground, much like everything else in rugby.
-
@NTA yeah is always alot of chirping at refs and TJ at club level, nothing nasty (that I have witnessed) but the constant comments about what they miss from people watching, subs, players, little wonder they are struggling with numbers, and then obviously the quality of refs from a smaller pool...

Fuck me I hate the judiciary system.
We got a red card, which was a surprise to everyone.
Now, to prove the ref wrong, I have to get a pile of stat decs from witnesses by Wednesday in time for the hearing.
Stat decs for a kangaroo court. Fuck this game has its head up its arse at times.

@antipodean im slowly becoming more convinced the powers that be are actively trying to put people off playing rugby by making things harder...started with stupid and complicated rules....now shit like this

I never say a ref is wrong , especially taking a player to judiciary, and first time I did in Brisbane, was actually stunned when the board asked me if I saw what happened the same as ref. I answered truthfully, I was nowhere as close as the ref , and would have no argument with his decision! Then added a little about the player was our top back and team we were playing and ours had a real rivallry, and perhaps he had reacted to a bit of rubbish thrown at hin during game. He only got 1 week which everyone in club was gobsmacked about!

Yep taniwha, I really dislike the chirping from sidelines (don't like it even on forums) at refs and TJs, I have seen some real mistakes at times, but never a ref that balles up more than players, or doesn't make a lot better job than I (or most of chirpers) could make!
And same applies to all games anyway, whether it rugby, netball, soccer etc that I have seen! -
@Dan54 while I dont think there is anything wrong with pointing out what a ref/AR does wrong, however there is a right way and a wrong way to do this, from our armchair (achieves fuck all) and from the sideline, is actually more likely to distract the ref from the game further are not the right ways.

TBH at this point I might keep Stan Sport until the end of RWC23 then pull it.
The money could be better used elsewhere. I'm done supporting Australia rugby while it fails to implement change, and pulls stupid shit like 1900 smackers for nothing. Dumb fluffybunnies will no doubt pay that, too...
With the last 7 years of digging a club out of the mire - kicked out in 2016 for a brawl, and then years where we struggled to win more than 1-2 games (and some of those forfeits)... recent events with refs, player disinterest, financial issues at the club, and being the guy who runs everything behind the scenes..
I'm wondering why the fuck I bother? I love the game but feel like it is unhealthy for me at this point to continue trying to help.
There appears to be no cogent strategy to get out of the rut we're in - at any level - and so many Old School Ties just pretend like nothing is wrong and Eddie is going to fix everything.
And there is nobody available to take over my role, so chances are everyone else on the Committee just decides to can it as well. Another club dead.

Division 3 in Sydney Subbies this year has 7 clubs fielding 2 Grade + Colts U21.
One of the clubs yanked 2nd Grade pretty early on.
This week there are 3 First Grade games happening, ZERO 2nd Grade games, and 2 Colts matches.
That's four forfeits of a possible 9 matches.
Two of the clubs forfeiting are St Ignatius Old Boys (2nd Grade and U21) and Knox Old Boys (2nd Grade) - private schools with rugby programs. Doesn't appear to be much in the way of connection between school and club these days. Barely worth the name.

On Saturday our division had a wet weather week we didn't need to use, so with the day off and Mrs TA having a girl's weekend, I ended up at a division 1 club for a look.
Their chairman - also on the union board with me - mentioned they didn't have a ref for 5th grade. I happened to have my gear on the car so decided to have a run.
Really enjoyed it. Players had fun - a mix of old boys and young guys who don't train.
That was a good Rugby day to balance out the shit.

the boys snuck home last week, were 5th going into the final game.
we were playing second on the table Unicorns and the 4th placed footscray team were playing the 7th placed Melbourne uni
we needed two upsets to make finals
we came out firing and dominated Unicorns...one down
Uni....snuck over the line with a try and a penalty in the final 5 mins!
our quarter final opponent?....unicorns, bring it on
-
We snuck into 6th spot with a 28-30 loss on the weekend to just shift ahead of the guys in 7th.
Soured a little by one of our blokes blowing up deluxe at the ref, and a post-match citing by the other club of one of our guys who has the cleanest record I've seen for an openside flanker. I don't see any form of contact during the period alleged, but off to Judiciary we go again.
