I did expect two losses today, but still disappointed, of course.
Rotorua finished their game with a drop goal.
FT:
Rotorua Boys 24 - 14 Hastings Boys
Hamilton Boys 43 - 7 Napier BoysThe Super 8 final should be Hamilton Boys v New Plymouth Boys in Hamilton.
Will there be a Hurricanes play-off, this year? I know the Top Four has been cancelled, but can't remember anything about the regional play-offs.
If it goes ahead, the semis should be between Napier Boys and the Wellington runner-up and between a challenger and the Wellington no. 1.
The challenger might be Palmy Boys in that case, who beat Hastings in Super 8, but I remember from previous years, that there was a play-off game for that challenger spot, so Palmy Boys and Hastings Boys might have to play each other again, if that's the case..

I watched about 15 mins of the 2nd XV game between Hamilton and Napier. I understand most of the scoring was done in the 1st half but Hamilton won 30-12, so a good day. Payton Spencer is the 1st 5 for the Hamilton 2nd XV.

Final

The Super 8 play-off games for 5th and 7th place have been cancelled, so Hastings Boys won't be playing anymore.
Obviously, the semi-finals are going ahead and kick off at 12pm.
The Lindisfarne v St John's game is livestreamed on sideline app here. I think registration for this game is free, but not sure.

Napier leads 6 to 5 after 20 minutes. No doubt, Hamilton Boys are better, but they've had little possession as a result of their handling errors. One of their rare attacks in Napier's half quite quickly resulted in a try though.
Napier Boys' problem is definitely their defence; their attack is reasonably good.
The Napier TH prop just got sent off with a YC (not sure what for), so expect Hamilton to score soon ...
-
That's the full time score. I understand that they'll play New Plymouth Boys next week in NP for 3rd place.
Afa Moleli scored all the points for Napier Boys. I don't know how old he is, but I hope he stays in the Bay if this is his last year at school. A good number 10 from the HB production line, again.

It was a red card for a headbutt. Last week's game wasn't a true reflection of the difference between these teams so I was expecting a tight tussle.
However, this was an ugly game to watch, not helped by a ref who has a reputation of finding penalties out of nowhere. A RC to Napier and then 3 YCs in quick succession for Hamilton meant it was 14 vs 12 in the 2nd half.
Moleli was very good for Napier but the best player on the park was Hotham, who either scored or setup every Hamilton try, and saved a try under the posts himself. Hamilton started poorly again and made more handling errors in the 1st half than they have all season.

Interesting to read that Napier Boys' wing Bethel Lutele-Malasia is Neria Fomai's nephew. Just finished year 12, so both he and Afa Moleli will be back for Napier in 2021. I think a few more from this year's team will return, but maybe not their best player, Jayden Stok. I really hope we're not going to lose him. I'm sick of our best young players being poached by other unions.
This is from the second article below (behind paywall):
Stok is in discussions with the Hawke's Bay, Otago and Ta$man rugby unions over where he will play next year, and is heading down to the South Island in the next month or so to get a feel for the different environments before making his decision.

This year, only Hastings Boys are competing at the Condor 7s open boys and u15 boys tournaments, and Hastings Girls at the u15 girls tournament.
So no Napier Boys (or Lindisfarne, who were there, last year). I don't know what the reason is, money or that not enough boys are interested, but it's a pity that Napier Boys doesn't compete at the Condor 7s anymore.
Anyway, Hastings Boys will be playing four games, today:
11.20am v Tauranga BC (field 2)
1.00pm v Kelston BHS (field 1)
4.20pm v Pukekohe HS (field 3)
6.00pm v Christchurch BHS (field 2)Games at field 1 are televised and broadcast on Sky Sport 1, but games on all field are also streamed live on youtube.
