Hamilton Boys have won the Super 8 Final again, beating Hastings 13 - 5.
The score is flattering Hamilton, it was super close. It was a great game to watch. Just sucks that Hastings couldn't win it.If they continue playing like this, they'll win the Hurricanes play-offs. They could meet Hamilton in the Top 4 again if that happens. Maybe it will be third time lucky.
Edited to add that Jordan Thompson-Dunn (Hastings' try scorer), Lattrell Ah Kiong (despite missing a few kicks) and lock Julian Goerke were outstanding. Both wingers were good, too, as well as young Cooper Flanders.

Ah Kiong's penalty miss from right in front on HT was costly in the end. He also failed to find touch with 2 kicks from penalties which would have given Hastings BHS a lineout near the goal line. The wind was definitely stronger in the 2nd half.
It was certainly an entertaining game where the defences outshone the attacks, and both teams were guilty of handling errors which denied them try-scoring opportunities. Hamilton BHS deserves credit for only conceding one try to Hastings BHS over the last 2 games.

Wow, this Manawatu ref is really doing everything to keep Silverstream in the game. Awarding them a penalty try because of a late tackle by a Hastings player, totally ignoring that that same player was tackled late only seconds before that. Also constantly re-setting the scrum instead of awarding Hastings penalties. They are totally dominating the scrum (not only the scrum, by the way).

Hell yes, Hastings Boys have beaten Silverstream 37 - 10! And that's a score that flatters Silverstream.
Try scorers for the good guys: Joeli Rauca 2, Emil Crichton, Mefi Tupou, Mercedes Hodge, Latrell Ah Kiong
Ah Kiong only converted two tries and kicked one penalty goal.
Ah Kiong played very well, but he needs to work on his kicking. Flanders, Crichton and Goerke impressed from the forwards; Thompson-Dunn as always was a stand-out in the backs. He's a good leader and deserves to be the captain.
It was good to see them play for the full 70 minutes, despite being so far ahead.
I hope we don't get to see this ref anymore. He doesn't know how to deal with a dominant scrum and with mauls. He kept Silverstream in the game for too long. Thankfully it was against a much weaker opponent; I'd hate to have this ref against a strong opponent in a tight game.
Hastings will now play in the Hurricanes Final next week!

Have been watching the other Hurricanes semi between Scots Coll and Palmy Boys.
It was 17 - 0 to Scots at half time. Palmy Boys came back to 17 - 21 with 10 minutes to go, only for Scots to score 5 minutes later (22 - 21). A few minutes later, PNBHS scored a penalty goal to make it 22 - 24 at full time.With Hastings ranking higher than Palmy Boys in the Super 8, surely they should play the Hurricanes final at home?

@Stargazer Presumably Development Grade means players from 2nd XVs or the better Under 15 or weight grade players?

@Higgins No, they're 1st XV teams, nominated by the Provincial Unions in the Hurricanes region, who are not in the running for the Hurricanes Boys 1XV or Hurricanes Co-Ed 1XV competitions. So by the looks of it, only Hawke's Bay, Wellington, Manawatu and Wairarapa nominated teams, unless there have been qualifying matches against schools from the other provinces that I have missed.
The purpose of this new Hurricanes Development Cup is to increase participation by secondary schools in the region.
I assume Lindisfarne was nominated because they were the best HB school in the CNI competition.

@Stargazer Thanks. Why don't they take the initiative and simply call it the Hurricanes B Grade as it is hardly encompassing the development of players at the qualifying schools in the region. You might have the results at your fingertips but didn't the 2nds from either NBHS or HBHS give Lindisfarne 1sts a decent match in the preseason (which seems to involve as many games as the actual competition season).

I think they took the initiative calling it the Development comp so as not to call it a B comp?
I was wondering whether the 2nd XVs of Hastings and Napier (and other Super 8 ) should be included but I think in the long run they'd start winning it too often and they already have Super 8 as a competitive comp.
Although, I assume Feilding is going to win this often in the short term.
