Well that put the hex on the home side as the visitors scooted in for a nice try that has subsequently been converted, no doubt much to the disappointment of @Nepia. 07 -07 after 20 minutes in glorious sunshine. Still no sign of the boys knocking off classes for their lunch break!
-
Just coming up to halftime and Hastings have added two nice tries. The first to right wing Kyan Lowe after a nice lineout drive by his forwards and the second to standout No 8 Shaun McNaughton after a bullocking drive by him. Both conversions missed but at least a few more kids have skipped off class and are watching the game now. Not so those playing something over on a sports court over the back where a couple of kids were spotted involving themselves in a boxing bout, no doubt after some sort of dispute in the game they were playing! It can be witnessed after about 32 minutes of running time on the game clock!
-
7 or 8 minutes into the second half and Hastings are looking likely to score but alas for them the Rotorua Fijian (?) winger intercepts in midfield about halfway and it looks all over. He did not account for a spectacular chase back and tackle by Raef Robinson who snuffs out the certain try.
-
Robinson then further distinguishes himself with a turnover gain on his 22 and a brilliant break down the right hand side beating about five or six players in beautiful fashion only for the ball to be lost when a supporting player loses the ball forward when driving over the try line.
-
Rest easy @Nepia as Mr. Bredin does have his watch keeping accurate time and blows for full time after the conversion kick misses.
Final Score Hastings BHS 29 - 24 Rotorua BHS. Next game up for your outfit is away this Saturday against Tauranga Boys College and for Rotorua followers its Palmy who play them in Rotorua also on Saturday.
Hastings played nice enterprising football (as did Rotorua) and botched at least two tries when the final pass to unmarked players close to the tryline were poor and landed short of the feet of the intended recipient. Hastings have a very solid and cohesive forward pack and also have a lot of players that will be back next season (and some who still have two years left) so things are looking extremely promising for them to once again regain control of the number one step in schoolboy rankings. -
Thanks for those updates @Higgins. I had several appointments that prevented me from watching the game live. I hope to find the time to watch it later. I'll have close look at McNaughten again. He impressed me in previous games and i hope we have in him another good loosie for the future, that is, if he's not poached by another province. I hope the bloody vultures weren't circling around the field again.
-
@Stargazer He looked more of a Thomas the Tank No 8 than a Marino Mikaele Tu'u one but then again that just might have been the way they wanted him to play today.
By the way are you going to find a gap in your schedule for the Shield game tomorrow? -
It's a good thing that the club rugby season is over, because they'd struggle to get enough referees with all the school games, tomorrow (Sat 22 July 2023).
Central North Island
Round 8- Lindisfarne College v St Peter's Cambridge - 12.00pm
I haven't seen a team line-up of SJC, yet. -
Try to Napier! Not sure what happened there, with the officials deliberating, but I think it was Joel Russell who scored off the quick tap.
5 - 0 Napier
Hastings hot on attack in the other game, now getting a penalty - I think - deep in Tauranga's half.
