Almost another try to Napier. The ref had given the try, but changed his mind because the AR saw the ball on/over the dead ball line.
Full time: Gisborne Boys' 5 - 29 Napier Boys'
Good first win to Napier, but the margin should have been much bigger, considering the difference in strength between these teams. Gisborne Boys have a very weak team, this year. I don't think this is a particularly strong Napier team, although they were missing a few key players today (CJ Mienie and Angus Prouting).
Stand-out players for Napier: Joel Russell, Luke Thomas, Ta$man Soanai-Oeti, Ben Campbell and, particularly, Josh Augustine.

Try to Napier. Pick 'n go for minutes, patiently trying, and it's Angus Prouting who dots down. He played at lock for the last few years, but this year at 8 and the move has been good for both him and Napier Boys. Strong, big lad.
Luke Thomas converts the try.
7 - 10 Napier

Napier back on attack. Rotorua penalised for a high tackle and Napier go for the line-out. The throw and catch are good, the maul is good, but Rotorua collapse it. New line-out, new maul and try time! It may have been Angus Prouting again, but not sure.
Luke Thomas can't convert the try, this time.
7 - 15 Napier

Terrible high tackle by a Rotorua players. Ref lets them play on and Napier scores a try. Not sure of the player. I think the Rotorua player is lucky that Napier scored, because that should have been a card.
Luke Thomas converts.
Half time: Rotorua Boys' 7 - 22 Napier Boys'

The way the commentator is talking, Augustine got red, but he hasn't literally said it, so I'm not sure. To think that Roturua player didn't even get penalised for his high tackle ...
CJ Mienie has made some good breaks in this game, the last one almost resulting in a try. Now back on attack.

According to the commentator, the Thomas twins were born in Bay of Plenty and he's trying very hard to claim them as BOP locals by mentioning their family's club about a 100 times. Not sure when the boys arrived in Napier, but Luke has been in the team for a few years, so I don't think they've ever played 1st XV in the BOP. Sorry mate, they're well and truly Hawke's Bay boys now.
