St Pat's Silverstream v Hastings Boys - 1.00pm at NZCIS, Upper HuttEdit: Funny that they call Daniel Toala Danny Toala. Their parents definitely didn't have any imagination, giving both sons almost the same name, but the person who made this graphic is going a step further!

From Napier Boys' FB page:
Napier Boys’ 1st XV - 29 ( Tries: Charlie Nash, Ta$man Soanai-Oeti, Adrian Dixon, CJ Mienie. Conversions: Luke Thomas 3. Penalty: Zach Forster)
Keio High School - 19
A mixed performance first up as the team came to grips with the heat, hard fast ground and the after effects of a long trip to get here.
Some good team tries were scored. The team will look to lift their overall performance in todays game.
The win came at a cost with Adrian Dixon dislocating his should and breaking his collarbone in the act of scoring a try. -
Finally watching Napier Boys' first game. The ref is handing out penalties against them like candy. He literally seemed to penalise them for not defending a line-out and then not engaging in the following maul. That's perfectly legal, so what was the penalty for? Also several scrum penalties, some correct, but some clearly not, resulting in the frontrowers looking confused about what they were doing wrong.

That's exactly what I was referring to in my comments about the penalty situation faced by Napier earlier.

Today's result:
Brooksby Melton College 14 - 29 Napier BHS (HT: 7 - 17)Napier Boys' fell asleep during the game a few times, and each time they had to be woken up by a try to the opposition. After BMC's first try, there was a passage of play that NBHS showed they can really dominate. Especially their reserve TH prop - a huge boy - played like a bulldozer. Not sure whether he's really good, because the opposition didn't require them to play that well. It might just be sheer size and power that won't fool better opponents. Anyway, after BMC's tries, they kicked into a higher gear, raised their efforts and easily scored a couple of tries.
Like @Higgins said earlier, I don't think this Napier Boys team will worry Hamilton Boys' much.

As expected, Napier Boys' were steamrolled by Hamilton Boys' in the semi-final.
HT score: Hamilton Boys' 24 - 12 Napier Boys'
FT score: Hamilton Boys' 52 - 19 Napier Boys'I didn't see the game, but I suspect that on top of Hamilton's better attacking skills, Napier Boys' main problem was again defence. I've seen in the previous games that tackling is a huge problem.
Lots of new, young guys in this team (they've lost way more guys from last year than Hamilton Boys') and early in the season, so they still have time to improve, but I don't expect miracles this year. Especially from starters (with a few experienced boys) to bench (mostly younger, inexperienced players), the step down seems quite big.I hope they can still win bronze at this tournament (the 3rd/4th play-off is on Friday), to get some confidence for Super 8.
We'll only know how good/bad they really are, if we've seen some games against other Super 8/Hurricanes opponents. Hamilton Boys' is a bad yardstick, because they're basically always at or near the top with the advantage that they have in attracting talent from elsewhere and the quality of their rugby programme. -
By the way, the second round of Tranzit 1st XV Festival will be played at Hastings Boys', this Saturday.
- Gisborne BHS v St Pat's Silverstream - 11.30am #2
- Feilding HS v St Pat's Wellington - 11.30am #1
- Palmerston North BHS v Rongotai College - 1.00pm #2
- Hastings BHS v Wellington College - 1.00pm #1
I'd really like the media (HBT or HB app) to do some decent reporting about these games, particularly the Hastings Boys' game. Not holding my breath. -
Hastings Boys obliterated Wellington College this afternoon: a 60 - 7 win!
It's a pity this isn't a proper tournament. Only two rounds. Even if there is a winner based on points differential, it doesn't mean much because teams have only played two of the 8 participating teams.

@Stargazer ahhh looks like its back to the days when I was at Lindisfarne. We would play HBHS and NBHS 2nds the week before playing the firsts. Have a close game then set up to get smashed the following week. Thanksfully I remember week 5 we played flaxmere college (or is it high school). We lost 89-0 to HBHS then won against Flaxmere 92-0 to have +3 points diff for the fortnight.
Has Lindisfarne got any good players this year? I saw one of Taines kids is openside any good?
-
@Magpie_in_aus I haven't seen any Lindisfarne game, yet, this year, so I don't know how good they are. Looking at the squad list, they've quite a few new players. So that's indeed Taine's son?
I hope the CNI will be streamed on the Sideline live platform, but I'm not holding my breath. Sideline live used to be good in the past, but the last two years (I think they changed owners) they were very unreliable and their comms isn't good, either. So I'm not sure whether I get to see any of their games, especially with Sky also not broadcasting 1st XV. Some schools use a YouTube channel without any commentary, so I'll keep an eye on that one, as well.
