Preseason - Highlanders v Hurricanes
-
Happy with the Landers so far. Ricky Jackson has surprised me. Patchell, Harmon, Nareki, CGB and DLB have been good.
-
I'm a bit behind. But Canes lineout has been dreadful so far (first 20 minutes)
-
Typical pre season game. So many mistakes and players pushing passes etc.
-
I’m real worried about our 10s aye. Morgan is garbage, Cameron looks crap. Give the young gun Godfrey a run.
-
Nice Try Tele'a
-
Not much trust in canes defence, players joining tackles unnecessarily, leaving space near the ruck all the time
-
PPP was hobbling before he was subbed. Hopefully for his sake he isn't injured again.
That's some mullet on Tele'a.

Good to see him out there again, looks in good shape.
-
Hurricanes look like they are in a training run, not in a good way. Not committing to tackles fully, laboured running into contact and not fully committing to the breakdown.
I’m not too worried because pre-season results never mean anything but you’d expect a little bit more two weeks out from the start of the comp.
-
some good defence by the landers
-
Flanders has f all impact to him for his size aye. He runs hard but literally makes no impact on contact. Obviously lacks power.
Brayden Iose looks much better at 8 for me.
-
Canes have far too many under 20s players out there. So young and dumb.
I don’t get the point in having such a big squad. Players in there that are clearly not going to ply for the Canes this year so why even bother.
-
Good smart play from a very young Highlanders team. The vast majority would only be only in their early 20s.

To see who's ready to cover for inevitable injuries, when else do they get a chance to look at them?
-
Well played Landers, completely dominated the Canes today. I expect the Canes to look very different next week though and I hope we utilise a smaller squad. Having guys coming on every two seconds ruins any momentum.

Good structure, certainly hit the rucks in a more organised way. First 30 the Canes were off their feet an awful lot.

UJ is one of the dumbest, and he's not got the excuse of youth
-
@Machpants he’s been dumb for a few years now. Never reached his potential that’s for sure and I hope he doesn’t get in the way of Higgins.
-
Landers bell looks good. Canes doing well in the half back position, with the top two out
-
lol is that Keruru-Symes getting bumped? He wasn’t even in the wider training squad initially.
-
That result, albeit a pre-season game will help sell tickets
-
@SouthernMann Landers played well. They look better than lst year. Good to see.
-
Sinkinson looks a lot bulkier. Not saying he's good or not (I wrote him off last year) but he needed to bulk up and he has.
Iose looks good.
-
So far Filipo will be disappointed. He's been poor
But Kirifi, Iose have been VG, Judd looks a VG third option (after the dreadful Booth last year) and Higgins looks the goods. Cameron has been only so-so.
Now keen to see what Viljoen can do.
-
@Winger I really hope Godfrey gets time at 10 this year. He looks very Beauden-esque in the way he plays. So much better than midget Morgan, and the underwhelming Cameron.
-
I think the only reasonable conclusion from this game is that the Highlanders are back, and they WILL win Super Rugby.
-
@Canes4life I a bit keen on his play too. Looks to have something soesn't he?
-
Viljoen (the midget) looks outstanding so far. Morgan the opposite

Has Morgan ever looked good? Never understood why he was highly rated.
-
@Winger yeah Vijoen will be back-up to Roigard eventually when TJ hangs up his boots. He's a real whippet and has a lovely pass on him. In Vijoen, Roigard, Godfrey, Higgins and Love, the Canes have plenty of playmaking youngsters to build their team around in the future. I just hope we don't lose the likes of Godfrey and Higgins by persisting with messy players like Umaga-Jensen and Morgan.
My take on the Highlanders today, the players that stood out for me were Holland, Renton, Harmon, Gilbert, Tavatavanawai and Faleafaga when he came on. The landers definitely look a lot more threatening than last year so hopefully they can take a result like this into the season proper in a couple weeks time.
-
Raymond Tuputupu. Who is this?
-
@Winger he was the hooker that came on for O'Reilly, had a blond streak through his hair. Good around the park but can't throw for shit at the lineout.

Remember watching Morgan when at preseason game at Levin last year, and couldn't believe how ordinary he looked, hasn't done a hell of a lot to change my mind up till now.
-
@Dan54 yeah and guess who came on and changed the game against the Saders in that game? It was Roigard at 9, and Godfrey at 10. Godfrey looked a shit tone better than Morgan that day, just shows you how bad the Canes are at noticing talent, Godfrey should be getting minutes at 10 but they clearly see Morgan and Cameron as the more senior options. I say if you're good enough, you're old enough. Give Godfrey the 10 jersey.
-
Commentators are just pumping Morgan after he just cocked up again
Vijoen continues to impress. But can he defend?
-
Terrible 2nd period by the Canes (38-12 score to date)
Iose and kirifi have been missed. And Morgan has been truly awful.
-
@Canes4life Mind you the U20s played him at 15 as did The Bay if memory serves me correct. But like you I would love to see him get a run. Seem to recall me raving about him and Roigard after Levin game last year as well.
I definitely think we have a tendecy in NZ to not put to much pressure on young fellas as game drivers. -
@Dan54 Godfrey seems like a cool customer though, I don't think he would be too overawed if he had to run the team at 10.

I still think Cameron as the starting option and Barrett as the backup. But who next. Not Morgan. He was ordinary a few years back and is worse now. I would give Love a shot and then Godfrey
