His caerrer averages are quite interesting, high 30's against Aus, IND and ENG, 65+ against everyone else.
in isolation that looks bad
For India and Aus there is a bit of mitigation
Only 11 tests v Aus, 7 of them in Aus
13 test v India, 8 of them in India
So of the two good teams, 24 tests, 15 away. The England record is weirder. 16 tests, even split home and away. And yet lowest average of the lot.
It's certainly not great.
Kohli averages 47 v Aus over 25 tests, and 42 v England over 28 tests
Root averages 40 v Aus over 34 tests, and 57 v India over 30 tests
Smith averages 56 v England over 37 tests, and 66 v India over 19 testsSo Kane gets less chances to score against this better teams, but you would find it hard to make an argument he's seized the chances he has been given. Playing away so much doesn't help, but it's not like he's cashing in at home either.
It's relatively easy to see why fans from the bigger nations don't hold Kane in the same esteem as us.
But they miss the point that relative to everyone else in NZ history, he stands out like dogs balls.I got to watch him score a hundred at the 'gabba. I'll always remember that.
I sadly agree with a a lot of this.
Contrast this with one of my personal favourites Brian Lara who averaged 52.88 ( with fuck all not outs compared to others )
He faced McGrath, Gillespie, Warne, Waqar, Wasim, Murali, Kumble, Donald, Pollock……plus others who I can’t think of……
…..and lets be honest for most of his career the Windies were pretty shite on the whole.

Dunno about that. Average of 12.78 against SL with 37 wickets in only 6 tests
Less than 10% of his test wickets though.

Day One afternoon batting in the sunshine in Christchurch... a good chance for Kane to work on those stats.
... or not...

Goodnight

a bit of an aside, but i wonder if there are some worried guys at Cricket Australia
This attack of theirs is relentless, as good as any that has gone around, all four have incredible records, and are seemingly ever-present.
But
They are 30, 33, 34, and 36. There is a chance all 4 of them finish at about the same time. Aus have a heap of promising seamers floating around (not so much in the spin department), but promise doesn't always equal results.
There are already concerns at the lack of genuine batting options coming through, and the current line-up is at best brittle. This Aus team could just completely fall in a heap in a few years.
-
That's not going to help Kane's average vs the Big 3...
-
Williamson is really starting to majorly tarnish his legacy with an inability to perform at the top level against the best, that was a very soft dismissal that he played al around.

This test could be decided in the first session.
OK, I was a little pessimistic. But just a little...
-
There's a research project somewhere in working out the new advancements the Black Caps specialist coaches have made in being Teflon...
-
Our batsmen just aren't quite good enough to put on enough runs against this lineup (which is one of the best ever TBF). If we could just get through to 325+ this innings then we're right in this game, but we're struggling to get beyond 200 in any innings. Which is a shame as our bowlers can actually knock over this fairly brittle Aus battling lineup but just don't quite have enough runs to play with.
-
Hazelwood is actually too good. Test nearly gone already.
-
@BerniesCorner when the ball is seaming a bit there are not many better at exploiting that than Hazlewood.
-
Henry will be looking forward to that seam movement as well

But they miss the point that relative to everyone else in NZ history, he stands out like dogs balls.Always feels like the Oz pundits and players only rate someone if they consistently do well in Oz. Understandably I guess, from their point of view.
Will always remember MD Crowe being interviewed in genuine awe on ABC Grandstand during a mid 2000's lunchbreak... while Black Caps batters playing in the Test were spoken about with contempt.

i still, and have always, maintained that Hazlewood is the best test bowler in the world, and has been for some time.
Not as celebrated as the other 3 guys in the lineup, but he's the guy that knocks over the top order. 46% of his wickets are the top 4. Beautiful action through the crease, hits sexy areas, doesn't give up runs. -

Phillips gone with the total barely 100. This is far from ideal

how good is footy season? fucking love that all 3 codes are back

At least I can watch the Canes

I just realised why Super starts so early.
Withdraw and apologise for my earlier comments on rugby...

Kuggelin continues the family tradition of getting a duck. First ball this time.
Apparently he was late onto the field, commentator just said he would be better to have been timed out haha
-
-
dead fucking set you hopeless fluffybunnies
we've lost the top AND middle order for 60 fucking runs.
-
oh go and get fucked.
-
Gotta give the guys credit, that’s how you collapse. Top notch work
2 Day test anyone -
Kuggeleijn fittingly getting a duck on International Women's Day
Black Caps haven't really been overly impacted by the start of Super Rugby (T20 1 was on a Wednesday night, T20 3 was on a Sunday, Super Round in Melbourne last weekend, Moana vs Rebels in Hamilton of all places tonight) and have completely shat the bed

Ouch, well played !
Given he’s pretty much guaranteed to bowl sometime today he’ll fuck that up too.

Southee and Henry just rubbing salt into the "performance" by the top order.
-
The problem with these two going well is it shows the pitch has dried out a bit now. Going to need something special from Henry (with the ball) to stay in this.
-
I have no words for another batting shambles.Just another day in the life of a BC batter carry on under performing.
-
Just another typical day in the #SteadyDecline

not only do we suck again, it's starting to de-legitimise that test championship. Aus didn't make the final thanks to a slow over rate penalty, and during the "league stage" they absolutely belted us. I totally get why they scoff at that win.

It's ours and they can't take it away. But make no mistake, if we faced them in the final instead of India, we would have got pumped
-
How good is Southee's batting?
fluffybunny never dies wondering.
-
Fuck sake. Southee opening the bowling.
That's self indulgence taken to the extreme.
Thanks for the 100 tests timmee (well the first 90 odd). Enjoy your retirement.

Well, it is easy to be awesome bowlers if you never get puffed. Get those over-rates up to the minimum, cheaters.

Him and Henry were absolutely putting your bowlers to the sword.
Inspirational stuff.

Henry getting it to seam a mile like Hazlewood. Should be an interesting battle.
