If we completely shit the bed against this Aussie team I will be so pissed
Their bowling is awesome, but their batting is not
But we have that mental block
Apart from the mental block. Which is a thing.
I'd not get too optimistic. Both teams going through similar phases IMO, with the decline of their batting units. Still looking good on paper but a bit shit in reality. Big difference between the two teams is Aus bowling is still boss.
They have four batsmen ranked in the top ten in the world, then again Henry Nicholls got in there at one stage…..
But yeah, let’s not write their ‘shit’ batting unit off quite yet. Us and England have a couple, Pakistan and India just the one each…..
There's no chance Head gets another king pair..although that would be great to watch!
Only the 23rd time it’s happened in tests.
A couple of my favourite big hitters in Virender Sehwag and Adam Gilchrist have both managed it !
how the hell Chris Martin avoided this list is beyond me

Not that surprising really, despite his well, limitations with the bat ( I don’t want to sound mean cos @Bones knows him ) he wouldn’t have batted twice in an innings a hell of a lot given he was ALWAYS number 11 ( 104 innings in 71 tests, thanks cricinfo ) often bowlers would have bowled balls that were possibly too good for him to get an edge too. That sort of thing.
But then as if to completely prove me wrong he did get the most pairs in test cricket though, seven in total. No one else has more than four. Good enough to last at least a ball in all of them though, classic battler.

I had to google Ian Colquhoun. He had an interesting test career - I wonder how he scored his run? Hopefully a blazing cover drive that someone miraculously stopped, rather than an edge onto his pad that trickled into vacant territory.
He did catch Len Hutton out twice so had something to tell the grandkids.

Looks like the responsibility of moving from 11 all the way up to 9 was too much to handle.
Kind of an early Southee if you wil..

Whenever someone gets a pair I'm always reminded of Marvin Attapattu. Started with career with 5 ducks in his first 6 innings including two pairs and one a single run.
He went on to have a pretty handy career. Maybe we gave up on Ian Colquhoun too soon!

Mark Waugh got four in a row and they called him Audi. Pretty amazing they persevered with him after that

During that era, it was often harder to get out of the team than into it.

First ODI looking like a dud.
Windies 4 down after 15 overs
A 3rd test instead of these 3 ODIs would have been better in hindsight.
One of those series on pay TV only, so largely unwatched and uncared for anyway.

Especially if you were Steve’s brother….

it's not ODI cricket's fault the Windies are hopelessly outmatched. They don't have the batting to compete with the Aus bowling. They've been humped in all 3 games.
If they set Aus 85 in a T20 they are getting humped equally as quickly.

...and that is why ODI are dying. Once you lose a bunch o'wickets, the game is basically done.
T20 holds interest until way closer to the actual finish. This sucks, as I like ODI more than T20, but appreciate I am not paying the broadcaster bills
Not sure I agree. One bad over in T20 can ruin your night.
Agree entirely with @mariner4life

What’s disappointing is that fans would’ve paid good money to watch 100 overs or thereabouts.
The teams should’ve played a t20 game for fun to give the fans something! -

And it was hardly our best lineup of bowlers.

Your depth in pace bowling is fucking insane at the moment

I remember the Wold XI game in Hamilton where we rolled them so they played a 20-over
