@bobily2 OK, who?
Manawatū squad:
Experienced players recruited from overseas were George Blake (Queensland Reds), lock Lachlan Shaw (ACT Brumbies), wing Ataata Moeakiola (Kobe Kobelco Steelers), and fullback Reece MacDonald (New England Free Jacks)

Moeakiola was at the Chiefs for one year (2019), but didn't do much. I wonder where Epeli Waqaicece is?
Didn't do much might be an overstatement...
Wasn't it Colin Cooper's decision to sign Moeakiola that saw Reece choose to head overseas (and then eventually end up with the Crusaders)?

Reece had signed to go overseas in early 2018 well before any 2019 Super squads were named and then lost his overseas contract due to assaulting his missus. No team in NZ signed him until the Crusaders Fijian winger got injured so they brought him in as a replacement.

The Canes need wingers, he could be an option but at 28 probably not. Interesting to see Waga Nalaga isn’t with the Turbos this year but Armstrong-Ravula still is.

Hoping he is actually fit at some stage to play

Yes. All to do with timing.
Cooper said they had added Moeakiola to the squad before winger Sevu Reece had his contract torn up by Connacht following his appearance in court on domestic assault charges. Reece, who was the top try scorer in New Zealand's provincial competition and helped Waikato to promotion to the top tier last week, was discharged without conviction and fined $750.
"With Sevu Reece's contract not coming through with Connacht, we had already committed to him (Moeakiola), so it's unlucky for Sevu to miss (out)," Cooper added. -

Has he signed for the Chiefs next year?

When it was decided that Trask should go to Japan it was announced he had signed a 2-yr contract with the Chiefs for 2024-25. He had a problematic groin injury this year.
