NPC 2024

If Christian Leali’ifano turning out for Auckland last weekend came as a bolt from the blue for onlookers, the man himself was equally stunned, on the back of a presidents grade game in Hamilton alongside Lima Sopoaga and Jack Lam.
Imagine being on the other team and looking across and seeing those three lining up against you.
my mate played with them that game, lined up at 12 with them all around him. Said it was pretty awesome

Good to see there's a few paths where Auckland can get a challenge.
No Shield game since 2015.. that has to be a record? At least in the NPC era for a non heartland side
And Auckland's last challenge before that was 2010.
1 shield challenge in 13 years, that's impressive.
it's weird how the draw falls to some teams more than others. BOP had a challenge in 2021, then they went back to their other two in 2015 and 2014, and that was it for the decade.
I'll seem to remember in one season in the 90s sometime where Harbour got a bunch of challenges thanks to the Shield changing hands, and won none of them

Yeah 1996 I think it was for North Harbour. Lost to Taranaki and Waikato?

Just looked it up. Harbour had 3 challenges in 1996
Lost to Taranaki 13-11 (Aug 31st)
Lost to Waikato 17-14 (Sep 13th)
Lost to Auckland 69-27 (12th Oct) -

Correct. We gave the NH fans so much shit. Auckland started with the RS and ended with it.

Lost to Auckland 69-27 (12th Oct)Yeah wasn't sure if the Auckland fixture that year was a Shield challenge or not.
I think the Harbour kicker in the Taranaki fixture that year hit the post to tie the game at the end (not that it matters in a Shield fixture).

Manawatu updates:
Reece McDonald dislocated his shoulder against Hawke’s Bay. His likely return date is TBC. Tyler Laubscher sustained a knee injury against Wellington which requires surgery and rules him out for the season. These players are being assessed week by week for when they can return: Joe Gavigan - concussion Kyle Brown - concussion Johan Momsen - concussion Brett Cameron - concussion Slade McDowall - left arm injury Ataata Moeakiola - AC joint injury Misinale Epenisa - neck Injury Logan Wallace (foot) and Ofa Tauatevalu (shoulder) were already ruled out for the season. Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula is unavailable due to Fiji commitments.
Why don't all the sides do this??

It's not good to have so many concussions.
Why don't all the sides do this??
You would think it would be the "professional" thing to do, but when I asked this question there appears to be a degree of gamesmanship where coaches don't want the opposition to know the seriousness of their players' injuries.

Waikato manager told me "other teams would also like to know that information" when I asked why they don't give injury updates.
What a crap attitude. Then they complain that no one comes to their bloody games. Treat your fans with respect, and they'll do it back. Teams are listed days in advance anyway.
-
@SouthernMann this was last year, Waikato used to only give their team lists the day before a game. It did piss me off though, not a huge thing but helps with fan engagement.
