Can only assume they went with Phillips over Ravindra as he offers an alternative spin bowling option to take it away from the left hand batsmen?
Same.
Not really a good enough reason, though, IMO. The bowling.
Although Phillips has earned a shot, so good for him. Actuallt, maybe it is down to 'banging on door for longer ', that is sonething the leadership values.
But I would have like Ravindra to continue popping while it's hot.

Bangladesh trying to play ODI cricket right now, glad we got the second wicket though

FYI for those not in NZ it is live on youtube

MIssed the end of the session as making pizza - who bowled well?
Jamieson bowled pretty well especially the length of time he has been out.
I would like to see him use his height a bit more.
Patel got a bit of turn apart from an over when Shanto got hold of a couple he looked threatening. -

As I mentioned previously Nicholls has a lot of low scores between centuries in recent seasons. The 200 runs is probably a similar number of runs combined since his last ton.
Yeah definitely a career prolonging ton that one. He’s definitely lucky Rossco retired when he did and freed up a spot as he wouldn’t get in otherwise IMO

On these pitches, not as effective, but his spell in the T20 against India was ridiculously good. If he gets some seam movment it's brutal - hopefully his body holds up!

He is a real point of difference for NZ isn’t he.
He is closest we have to a tall Australian quick bowler who can extract something out of flat pitches.
We are going to need him going forward. -
I've said this before but Nicholls to me shows the growth of NZ cricket over the last decade or so. He has the kind of record that in the early 2000s would have made him first or second name on the team sheet. These days he's probably our 4th or 5th best bat (I have Kane, Latham, Mitchell, Conway ahead of him). It's good to have some guys (Phillips, Ravindra, Young) pushing for his place and there's a fair chance he'll lose out to one of them sooner rather than later, but my god it's nice to be having that debate rather than trying to convince ourselves that him, Matthew Bell and Daniel Flynn are a test quality top order.
Also worth noting, every time he plays domestic cricket he dominates, so it's not purely a guy that's the coaches favourite son, he genuinely earns his spot each time.

We are going to need him going forward.Arguably THE most important Black Cap once the other quicks hang up the boots. Easy to mention KW but we have other classy batsmen if he fails/doesn’t play.

Will it ? I like the idea of him being a monster third seamer, kind of a latter day Joel Garner that he has been until now
( of course the chances of us unearthing our equivalent of Marshall/Holding/Roberts/Croft are slim to fucken none so maybe I should stop dreaming )
……and the chances of the Windies unearthing that talent again are slimmer still…..

What’s the story with Glenn Philips. Seems odd that he’s listed to bat at seven. I thought he’d be in the top six ? ( tough to usurp Mitchell and Blundell to be fair )
Is he ( Phillips ) thought of as a bit of an all rounder ( emphasis on “bit” )
It is a nice strong batting unit given Sodhi is no mug. Any reason why Ravindra isn’t playing ?

Yes it will give him the new ball his days of doing the dirty 3rd pace bowling position should be over.

Oh I hear that, in the extremely unlikely chance of anyone better coming up in the next wee while to take over from SBW then it makes sense that Jamieson steps in. I just love what he’s done with the ball slightly older.

Think this can be looked at one of two ways... if you put Bell or Flynn behind Williamson and Taylor in their popmp, you'd probably find their records would be far better - and vice-versa.
