NRL 2024

That was as bad as I’ve seen us for some time. Could make a bunch of comments about how our forwards defended, the high error rate, that lack of effective kicks (and chases), but not worth it.
We are still a chance, but can’t see it happening this season. Something has seriously derailed.

Ummmm.....WOW!
-
Went to the pub (which is helpfully just next door) with colleagues to watch the game.
Seems like it was a 50/50 crowd.
Not surprising as tourists from cold climbs come to Port Douggie in school holidays.
Really surprised NSW supporters didn't break out the old
We can see you
We can see you
We can see you walking ooout!

what the actual fuck was that?
Firstly, NSW were so impressive. Their outside backs starting with Edwards got every set off to a good start, then their forwards just rolled us, and their halves were taking the ball on the run, and did what ever they wanted. On the flipside Qld did none of that.
Hard to pick stand outs for NSW because everyone was big, the outsides ran hard and scored, the centres ran hard and scored. The halves put the ball where it was needed. Their back row ran hard, smashed everything that moved, and played the ball really fucking fast. Payne Haas just rolled guys. Their bench lifted everyone when they came on. Really impressive performance.
For Qld the exact opposite. Reece Walsh had an absolute shocker. He's in very poor form this year, and this game was everything that is wrong with him as a player. The wingers didn't do much because they were constantly working off their own line (and the Qld kicking game was off). Holmes was given nothing, and had a mare defensively. Hammer scored as usual, but was shut down otherwise. The halves had nothing to work with (credit to Deardon who kept trying despite Moses towelling him up). But up front Qld were awful. In a huge shock Su'a, Kaufusi and Capewell added nothing. No one put hard shoulders in. They lost contact on both sides of the ball.
Qld need to make changes. Can Billy admit he got it wrong and actually make them? Get David Fifita in FFS

on the plus side, i get to go to a decider at Suncorp.
-
Perhaps Billy's plan is to have Reece concussed and NSW play with 12 for the match?
-
Brutal game, it actually appeared NSW finally understood Origin. Whether or not they can replicate that effort next time, knowing that Queensland will be hell bent on redemption is the big unknown.
NSW still looked vulnerable when they were down to 12 and when you play defensively aggressive there is always a risk you will lose a player. However they had done the damage before it occured this time.
Lets see if they can all make the decider and not get suspended while playing for their own teams in the interim. A few of them play pretty close to the line.
Billy what did Dfif do to you? Seriously WTF
and Nico who? Great ball player but is he even really a 7?

Warriors bounce back in the best possible fashion, with a convincing win vs the Broncos
Despite the scoreline I don't think that was all too convincing against a Broncos team missing some Origin stars and having an average season.
I genuinely thought they were going to run us down midway through the second half.
What the match did confirm though is that TMM leads the team around better at the moment than SJ. Webster's got a big decision to make when SJ gets fit.

Definitely think they rushed SJ back and it hurt us. Best to let him get properly healthy and leave the team as is

@Nepia lots of problems still there, probably should have had more points for all that early dominance too.
A couple of forwards are off the boil, and our two wingers this year have been more rocks than diamonds.
TMM not so formulaic which provides an effective point of difference and looks so much better in control. Agree big head ache for Webster
Happy to take two points though
-
@bayimports can’t say I had high expectations heading in so I was pleasantly surprised to just see us create a couple of repeat sets.
Tonight’s halves pairing are natural runners so it was good to see them take advantage of the go forward created by our pack.
We are a 9-12th place side at best.
-
good but yucky win for the Warriors. Brisbane are in all sorts though.
Elsewhere Cronulla are going through the same thing as last year, where Hynes has an Origin nightmare and their season collapses.
Parra lost again but dragged themselves out of the spoon spot simply by not getting pumped
Melbourne beat Canberra, not a surprise. Sticky blamed the ref, also not a surprise. Grade A piston wristed gibbon and an average coach. The Raiders are going nowhere
The Dargons beat the hammerless Dolphins
The Cowboys had their annual win again Penrith in the battle of the reserve grade sides.
And the poor old Tigers copped a flogging.Melbourne sneak a couple of games clear at the top. The middle half of the table is incredibly congested.
-
Melbourne and Penrith as the exceptions and then everyone else on their day has the ability to be absolutely terrible or top eight contenders.
I don't think the Warriors will make it, but even now I am not sure who will round out the top eight.Tigers and the Titans are good enough to play a spoiler role for the remaining of the season, good enough on their day to cause an upset if you're not on 100%.
In a slight step above this just on ability of a healthy halves pairing should provide Paramata will also play a spoiling role with no finals.
Souths unbelievably could make a late run, as could we but still unlikely.
Canberras young team does enough work on effort and hate to win games and not coaching, but could make it.
Knights could make a late run with Ponga and a close enough
Teams in trouble that should be there but are not are the Warriors, Manly and Broncos
Dargons somehow hanging in there, but should not really be considered.
Dolphins, Cowboys, Bulldogs, Sharks teams that have worked hard to find themselves in the eight and are unlikely to lose a place
Penrith, Melbourne, Roosters wont miss out
So the way I see it, only the dragons and maybe 1 other team of current top eight miss out
Manly and Broncos most likely on ability to make itThe reality of this comp this year, I'm only really certain on Penrith, Melbourne and Roosters making the finals which is insane given how far through the season we are

In a huge change for the Roosters, they have picked up a free agent.
They have signed The Chad to cover for the loss of Luke Keary. Coboys fans will not mourn this loss, Clifford is the better half. Bad news for the Pride though.
