@mariner4life I'm reading this
https://www.theaustralian.com.au/weekend-australian-magazine/inside-the-bulldogs-wrestling-session-where-jackson-topine-was-forced-to-wrestle-squad/news-story/602c725bd73ac4324afc017d10b44bc7Reminds me a bit of when Bitchell would make players who dropped the ball in matches wear gloves all week and other frankly stupid stuff like that.
That wrestling stuff would have probably been par for the course 20 plus years ago but seems pretty counter-productive these days.

@mariner4life The trope pushed in media reports about Pacific players being lazy and not putting in the work is common in rugby league.
Ravulo first heard it when he began working with the NRL 15 years ago.
“There’s a narrative they just want to get on the field and play but they don’t want to train,” he said.
“But if you had one or two white players who were reluctant trainers, would you then apply that trope to all white players?”.

SO a Lebanese guy making a Polynesian guy do extra is racist now?

One example is now a trope. Well done.

can you, for once, just spell out what your fucking point is so i can see whether i agree or disagree, rather than trying to work out what the fuck you are trying to say from one sentence vague posts, and then attempting to discuss that?
And if you are talking about specifics in your article, remember you linked to a paywalled article.

I quoted the relevant part for you in answer to your question so you could join the dots and understand the basis of why I said it may open up a can of worms about some racist attitudes in some coaching staff and administration.
Which bit are you having difficulty with?

the implication this is because he is a pacific islander
not that he is at a club that had fallen in a heap, and a new coach was trying to set standards to lift them out of that hole.
you can argue the merit of those methods for sure, but to say this happened to him because he's a pacific islander, not a Bulldogs player, seems a stretch to me.

No, the prospective answers to his claim may shine a light on the perception allegedly held by some that Māori and Pasifika players are lazy.
-
do you think that is a likely opinion to be held by his managers (ie coaches) and employers?
Surely the deadshit opinions of the dumbest fluffybunnies in the stands will not matter.
I absolutely think that opinion existed 15 years ago. Shit, i heard it at every club i played at. But these days?
The best club side possibly ever is loaded with polynesians who are absolute specimens. People hate Penrith because they are so good, but you never hear disparaging comments about their players. In fact, clubs play overs for their polynesian players to come and set standards. On the flip side is Josh Schuster, who never looks in shape, is widely reported to be an actual lazy trainer, and no one wants to talk to him.
-
I don't know, hence using terms such as may, some etc.
-
@antipodean maybe 10 years ago but I don’t think the ‘lazy poly” sentiment will feature in this matter.
The legal points are interesting from what I’ve read at least and I can see even a conservative SC justice leaning in the player favour on a few of them.
The reasonableness of what allegedly occurred in my view even fails the pub test let alone the legally defensible test. So the procedural fairness not being afforded to Topine should get up.
So the Bulldogs lawyers will probably have to make concessions but will fight the corporal punishment charge (a fairly high bar), but the strategy of Topine’s legal team will be to get into the minds of those making decisions about what happens when a player rocks up late to training.
Popcorn worthy viewing for sure.

Every warriors game looks exactly the same. Start well, be on top, score early. Then every set is good metres followed by a bomb to our right. Set after set. No contesting. No variations. Give away penalties. Other team gets in to their rhythm. The lead evaporates.
Sometimes we come back. Sometimes we don't.
We are very predictable and not exciting to watch in this mode.
-
Not looking great at the moment. Last two games we have had super leaky defence. Lacking imagination on attack.
Johnson with one grubber and very few runs (if any), which are worthy just to keep the defence guessing.
Great support from fans though. I’m loving watching the Warriors at the moment even if I’m not a die hard. Lots of family and friends are. -
I don't know how they held us out in the final 10 minutes. But we shouldn't have dug the hole we found ourselves in in the first place
They were gassed more than 20 from the end. We were abysmal. We should have put them away yet our only moves are hopping AFB barrels over or kick to Perriera's wing. If the Titans had a wing who could catch a high ball then we'd only have one tactic.
