Now comes the fun part, starting with India up next
India, Australia, South Africa, Pakistan then Sri Lanka
Win 2 and NRR might be enough? Win 3 should be enough without NRR?
whats helped us massively are the upsets.
England dropping a game vs the Afghan's and SA with the Dutch. They have both missed out on 2 points.
A high NRR helps us too, we havent just won those 4 games so far. We smashed them.We should thump Sri Lanka as they look shite.
Not so confident against India and OZ, but id be confident we can beat the other 2 there -

and OZ
they've looked very poor so far
they have, but they nearly always have it over us in ODI's.
love to see us smash them, maybe it will 1992 all over again -

India will be a good test of where we are. England have been a bit rocky so tough to read too much into that first up result. A loss would be okay (India are clearly the best team), but if we want to be contenders we need to be competitive at least.
I think 3 wins will get us through easily. 2 wins probably enough.
I wonder whether even 5 wins and a good NRR might be good enough.
England and Oz already need to win 5 of their last 6 to get to 6 wins - and have to play each other. Another upset or two of the real contenders (and not us) and five wins might sneak someone in.
India is going to be very hard to beat anywhere in this tournament.

5 was enough in 2019, although there were a few washouts that affected things. I suspect that 5 will be enough here too, but you wouldn't want to count on it.

Things are really going to take shape in the next little sequence of games.
Oz vs Pakistan tonight.
England vs SA
NZ vs India.I wonder whether we should play Ish vs India and rest Santner. We may need Ish later if we play on spinning pitches and maybe we shouldn't give the Indians any opportunity for a practice run against Mitch.
Something quite positive so far is - this team really looks more like Stead's team than Hesson's team. There's a few like Chapman and Phillips who i think debuted under Hesson - but really only played a small handful of games.
Conway, Young, Ravindra, Mitchell, Philips, Chapman are really all Stead's boys.
Ferg, Santner and Matt Henry probably half and half.
Boult - and maybe Captain Tom - the only guys playing regularly, who I'd mark down as stalwarts from Hesson's era.
Kane, Jimmy, Ish and Timmy still present, but so far just bit part players.
Moved on from Rossco, Guppy, CdG, Munro, Anderson and a few other lesser lights and across other formats BJ, with Nicholls, Wags possibly being eased out.
