NZ and World Rugby Awards 2023

@Canes4life It's often a player from the winning team, but not always. See, for example, 2011.

@frugby the player of the year will most likely be a player from the eventual World Cup winners in my view.
Like Jerome Kaino was in 2011 ...

Yeah, the awards are utter arse in RWC year, more than other years. Kaino was a beast all 2011, easily the best. Thierry has one awesome game in the final and he gets it, he was pretty average the rest of that year - utter tripe

If I had to pick the best player in the world right now it would probably be Du Pont, however I feel like the best player during this World Cup so far has been Bundee Aki.
Yeah World Player of the Year is also a bit stupid, because how do you compare a prop to a winger. You can always do a team MVP award by who is most important to a team, but you can't really do that across teams.
Maybe a bit brave, but I'd argue Scott Barrett has been the All Blacks best player this year, and suspect we will need him to show that on Sunday AM NZT.

I agree with the players, a bunch of guns... but not this: "George Smith would go on to become arguably rugby’s first openside superstar".
I guess in the same way that some people argue that the earth is flat.Agreed. Definitely not the first, but I've never seen a more talented forward in rugby.

I have, the first, plus the no.8 from that same era. Even of his own countrymen then Eales.
Of course, it all depends on what they mean by talented forward.

Very good point, but RWC winning coach will get it, end of story

@frugby If it's the same as last year, NZ team or coach of the year and National team/coach of the year are separate categories.
NZ team/coach of the year are the representative teams/coach (ABs, BFs etc) and National team/coach of the year are NPC/SRP/SRA teams/coaches. So Foster and Robertson will not be competing for the same award.

So
Men's player Ardie or Eben (whomever wins the final). Should be Ardie on his performances all year around, Dupont didn't get the chance to shine in rwc, aki choked in the end
Women's, I don't watch enough
7s Leroy
Coach will, again, be whomever wins cup. Should be Fiji
Noob will be Telea, as libbok dropped -

Women's
It's women's 7s only. IIRC the XVs nominees will be announced after the WXV (in November).
