Finished France 27 Uruguay 12. Score line flattered France big time.

At least Mr. Foster can rest easy that his team is still one point better than Uruguay when it comes to playing the Frogs. That is oh so comforting to know.

Love how we vmvmcan make France playing poorly against Uruguay Foster’s fault.

Only caught the last 10 this morning.

    Worth catching the whole replay?

Good to sew BP denied. BOK doing the job for us.

France had no cohesion on attack due to the changes. They also refused to play systems after the first 15 minutes or so, and got dumb at scrum time later in the game. That will be their worst performance at this RWC.

Sure, Uruguay were playing funny buggers at the scrum once their LHP figured out he needed to lower his arse a bit. I thought he was a bit hard done by when the French THP clearly overextended, but they figured it was easy enough to draw a few penalties because BOK is so random. I'd have faded a little on the hit as well 😉

Someone mentioned 7s influence and yeah you could see that with Uruguay and Chile - a few very good jackals. Play to your strengths.

Ultimately Los Teros fluffed too many lineouts to get up, and probably let a prime opportunity slip there.

    Yes

yeah, it was a fun game

It's funny watching rugby when you have no skin in the game, you actually see a bit more.

French defense is really good. On the open side they rush 3 or 4, whil the rest of the line is a little back for the next phase. There is a seam there, if you are good enough to find it. On the blind they play an umbrella shape where the winger is furthest forward. Didn't seem to matter how big open or blind was, it was the same pattern.

oh, and they are so good at what in league is called "the wrestle". The up top defender has a 2nd effort to push the tackled player back, slowing the ruck, not allowing yards through the ruck, and making cleaning hard. Got to be strong to do it, and they are.

Uruguay were full value for 65mins. Just fantastic to watch. Also thought BOKeefe had a very solid game.

Shaun Edwards’ influence over this French side is enormous.

I think Shaun Edwards might have a very different take

Uruguay comfortably opened up the French midfield and outflanked them on first phase, multi phase, and broken play

Let’s start at the very beginning, a very good place to start

If anyone thought that the re-recorded backing tracks for the anthems improved proceedings then they don’t have a musical bone in their bodies

    Too fast

    An absolute shambles

Fantastic that France is taking the game to the people and playing all around their beautiful country, but the playing surface was an absolute farce of the highest French order

Dangerous, and responsible for two of BOK’s whistles against Uruguay

What a thrilling match to start the second week of the tournament

    Was it technical? Yes
Were there a lot of free kicks and penalties? Yes
Did it constantly flow from end to end? No
Did the drama get ratcheted up? Most certainly yes
Was it compelling viewing? For me, absolutely

This was akin to watching Sean Strickland defeat Israel Adesanya in the UFC last weekend

No one in their right mind had Uruguay to win this match, myself included, and most definitely France

It was an exercise to see how deep the French squad really is and how robust their game plan with lesser performers

Then Uruguay rocked up and showed that both were lacking

This officiating team was as bad as Carley & Co and yet there’s barely a mention of how Uruguay were robbed of an all time RWC victory

The scrums were a lottery for both sides

BOK and his team allowed France to close the gap at the lineout every single time, negating the Uruguay threat and denying them clean, quick ball from which to attack

    And the YC

    Filth

Led with the elbow/shoulder making direct contact to the head

RC every day, but Whitehouse especially bottled it

Uruguay were very competitive and save for a moment of madness clearing their lines could have had a bonus point loss

I’m absolutely convinced that a 15-man Uruguay would have beaten a 14-man France

Uruguay had plenty of opportunities to put pressure on France - they won enough ball and penalties in the right areas of the field - but unfortunately weren’t accurate enough make use of their possession and territory

But against a 14-man France those opportunities would have eventually told

    Well done Uruguay

    RC every day,

Just saw the replay and I really don't understand why that was not upgraded to a red card.

    Cynically,
GDP of France: 3 Trillion USD
GDP of Uruguay: 60 Billion USD

The head contact is a lottery. It's nuts.

    @nzzp

I dont think it is even that cynical.

You can call it incompetence but it happens far too often to be imcompetence.

It’s why we see this kind of thing every week in the premier league.

There is so much money involved with partners/sponsors that it becomes a way for the controlling body to control outcomes - one step removed from the refs. Faceless team in a bunker making incompetent decisions.

I’ll take my tinfoil hat off now

Think you are doing what you told us we did with Fiji. Take the side of the underdog. Uruguay scrum was saved by BOKs pity. Uruguay made an absolute heap of unforced knockons. Definite blocking line for mine. YC could have been RC but not clear cut for me. Uruguay pulled down a maul in the first half that could have been YC and penalty try.

    Not at all

Uruguay lost because they were inaccurate and didn’t convert the opportunities they created

I stand by my comment on BOK’ scrum interpretation

    PS Wales we’re the underdogs
