2023 Cricket World Cup - Other Matches

Hundred up from Travis Head met by utter silence from the crowd. Not even grudging applause. Utter silence.
-
What an innings.
-
A six from Head. He's not messing around.
-
Huge and correct call by the selectors to keep Travis Head in the squad despite missing the first six games with a broken hand.

Indian. Fans. Don’t. Like. Cricket.
-
Head different gravy tonight. This is one of the great 50-over innings.
-
Have the fans started leaving yet?
-
Wake up, Australia. Your boys are about to win their 6th World Cup.
-
Travis Head caught. What an innings.
-
All over. Australia beat the hosts and favourites by 6 wickets.
-
A very Crusaders like performance by Aus.
No matter how big the away crowd Aus just play finals cricket at a different level.
What a performance by Head - ever since his catch of Sharma they just kept the pressure on the entire time.
-
Best ODI innings I’ve ever seen. The pressure when wickets were falling and the crowd were going nuts. Just batted beautifully
-
Congratulations, Australia. An outstanding Finals performance!
-
An absolute heist to do it in the ground that bears Modi's name in India against India after they win 10 games in a row.
-
That was perfect. How’s that feel Virat? It’s a weird feeling to like the Aussies. Used to hate Travis Head, now think I’d like to have a beer with him. Even Warner! Reality is no one cares if Aus win another one, but to deprive the Indians at home when they were trying to fix everything their way was beautiful.

I genuinely thought I hated Indian cricket more than anything eise in sports.
And then I watched Australia team celebrating winning.
Turns out there’s another team above India.
-
Good work Australia.
While six titles is too much I’m just pleased they stopped India.
Congrats, huge effort.
Fuck you bloody.
-
As I said earlier in the thread, I had no expectations coming into this game, so I'm not about to turn into a gloating Aussie.
However, I am pleased to make a single exception in this case:

Four more years.

Just saw the result. That is farking hilarious.

Surely the BCCI must be asking how much money they need to spend to buy a trophy? It has been a long drought on the short-form stage.

I'd say yes to the former, but have been reliably informed the latter is a fluffybunny.
-
Well congrats Australia, in the end a comfortable victory, contained the Indian batsmen and Head stood up with the match winning innings when it mattered.
Remarkably they managed to silence the crowd with their bowling which no-one saw coming.

Alright, alright, you can stop going on about it now. Sheesh.
Unbelievable arrogance

Cough cough

Yeah have to give credit to the Australian team (even if begrudgingly ) . That Indian team was particularly strong, high on confidence and at home. If any team was to beat them they would have had to put in a complete performance and that fielding effort put them under pressure, which haven't been in for a while.
Well done Australia

I'm hoping @Virgil logs on to take you down a peg or two….
But yeah, brilliant big match temperament to take the game which counted. I thought India would be pretty unstoppable to be honest.
-
So did I. Their quicks had been good all tournament - just didn't have enough to defend.
Besides Rohit going mad in the first 10, it was pretty tough to score out there for India.

@Dodge Well done!! Just got your call on Smith wrong but 2 out of 3 not bad
He wasn’t out (bloody referees) otherwise I was quids in

Australia won that with the ball. When Rohit was seeing them like beach balls, and Kohli getting going it was looking ugly. Then Head takes a fucking screamer, and the clamps go on. But it was getting Kohli that fucked them, while he was there 300 looked on despite everyone else battling. The whole unit bowled well, good plans, good lengths, and took the pace off the ball over and over.
I may have said this a couple of times this year, but Travis Head is so fucking good now, that's an all-time knock. 130,000 very quiet fans.
Considering how shit Australia looked a month ago this is quite some turnaround
-
Oh, and Dan won a World Cup
-
-
I remember reading someone on here saying how the tournament was long enough for teams and players to play themselves in and out of form. Was true individually of Devon Conway after his great start against England.
Also worked well in favour of Aussie moving up through the gears, and India playing long enough for an off day to finally slip in for their top order. The relatively long tail must play on the minds of Rahul and co when early wickets fall.
They were already on the move up, but Maxwell singlehandedly turning around the looming Afghan loss must have been huge for the self belief about Australia winning from anywhere too.
-
reading about the reactions makes this even better. Stay classy India.

Looking at the positives - beyond the win of course - maybe scam callers will take the day off to riot?
