Joseph Parker - Young man going places.
-
David Haye has moved to number 1 ranking with the WBO ,
A mandatory defense for Joseph in 2017 is looking on the cards
-
Whether David Haye wants the fight is another thing. His comeback seems more money driven ahead of anything else. Sounds like David Price or Jarrell Miller will be Parkers next fight.
-
Most of them are money driven , but in his case , it depends on whether getting the WBO title will earn him money , the bigger money could be made after he won it and defending it at home
Im not sure he has that many fights he has left in him ,
The worry for Duco , if the WBO ordered him to defend it against Haye , they would probably have to go to England due to lack of funds to stage it in NZ
-
Joseph Parker's first WBO title defence will be on home soil.
The Kiwi heavyweight boxer's promoters Duco Events have won the purse bid for the fight against Hughie Fury.
Duco put down a bid of just over three million American dollars.
The purse split will be 60-40 in favour of Joseph Parker.
In a tweet WBO Boxing's President claimed the bout would take place in Auckland on the first of April.
The bout will likely take place in New Zealand in early April.
After enjoying the Christmas break with family and friends, Parker joked that he now needed to drop some weight in preparation for a Fury showdown.
"I've put on a bit - I love those burgers and pies - but it's time to get back to work and focusing.
"I'm probably weighing 115-116kg, so would need to lose 5-6kg, but I haven't jumped on the scale yet.
It may be more, who knows."
His return to training means he will be unable to attend two key events in his calendar - the Halberg Awards, where he is a finalist as Sportsman of the Year and Favourite Sporting Moment, and the NRL Auckland Nines, where he was due run water for the NZ Warriors.
"Sorry to the Warriors boys," said Parker. "I said I'd be there to support them and encourage them to pick up that trophy, but I'll watching from overseas."

So April 1st is early April right?
RS did an interview with Higgins a week or 2 back and he walked them through the process of bidding on the purse, was quite interesting....basically like a blind auction, usually only the 2 camps involved bid, but a 3rd party promoter could get involved, and winning the bid means Duco control all the promotion, tv streams, location etc, whereas if you lose you have no say.
That Higgins is an odd character though.
-
its a pretty smart fight for Joseph ,
one that should generate interest and money , and lower risk than other options out there
-
David Price is now not an option he was KO'd last night so if JP gets past Hughie he could now go straight into a fight with AJ in the UK (If AJ beats Klit).
I liked the thought of JP taking on Price after Hughie as a gateway to UK - but even the brits would have no interest in that now. -
After Bellew smacked Haye's big mouth all over the ring there is now talk of Bellew being a possible opponent for JP.
It would be a good one for JP to get an offshore win. Bellew is a welterweight and even Haye was tagging him easily until an achilles injury from a slip meant that the tit for tit punching went in Bellews favour.
JP would eat him easily. -
From what I can gather Bellew came up from cruiserweight for just the one fight ,
And now they are surprised they have had offers from Parker and Wilder , and are thinking it through ,
His previous intentions were to unify the cruiserweight division which would be the smarter move for him , he is a natural cruiserweight ,
I guess he will be waiting to see what money is on offer first .
-
Money, probably
they are thinking after the fight on the weekend , it could be a big PPV audience by his standards ,
-
This Bellew victory is doing more harm than good to the HW division. No-one in the HW division gains anything by facing him but no doubt Wilder and his team will go hard and try and face him as he likes to avoid any top 10 HW.
-
So it's been announced that Parker will have his first defence at home, fighting Fury.
That is one hell of a first defence, and I'm shocked that Fury would even be interested. At least I was until I read the article and realised that the Parker to fight Fury at home headline is a perhaps a little misleading to the majority of the public.
We aren't talking Tyson here.
-
Id be concerned if it was Tyson ,
Hughie is a much more predictable proposition , which should suit Joe at this point in time .
