EPL 2023/2024

That was a Brazil team missing most of their first-choice defence (including GKs) and a coach on debut. Outside of free kicks and corners England never looked threatening.
England will never win anything with Southgate as he is far too cautious. There is plenty of talent up front, and in the midfield, but he doesn't get the best out of them.
-
@Bovidae Out front and attacking midfield isn't the issue though.
CD, LB (when Shaw is unavailable) and consequently DM are the issues.
Unfortunately no one has put their hands up and so Southgate will stick with Maguire and Henderson "who have never let England down" TM. and go out in the semi's to France.
-
@dogmeat Foden didn't have one touch of the ball inside the Brazilian penalty box. How he plays for England is completely different to the freedom he plays with for Man City. England may score some goals through individual brilliance but the attack is still disjointed.
I agree that the defence is shit, well mainly one slow CB, but Southgate doesn't need to play Rice with another DM (Henderson), who only passes the ball sideways or backwards.

England were missing a few front liners as well.
Main problem though is they didn't look mentally up for it at all. Always a privilege to play Brazil, but it's a pretty busy time of the football season, and frankly speaking, an absurd time for an international break.
Good to get a few of the EPL standouts some time on the pitch for England though. Imagine it's pretty nerve wracking.

England played a fun game tonight.
Shit start and rightly down early after a Pickford howler. Made chance after chance after that tho with the game ending 2-2. Lukaku did probably the best cross I’ve ever seen for Belgium’s second.
after they interviewed Jude Bellingham. That is one incredibly impressive young man. Hard to believe he’s only 20. Massive leadership aura about him on top of being a phenomenal player.
-
@MajorRage How'd Ezri Konsa go at right back?
-
Watching so many English teams play this early in the week makes me feel like it is the Championship, not the EPL. Great last 5 minutes in the Spurs v West Ham match, end to end chaos. Draw probably fitting, but neither side likely to be happy without the points.
Sure games in hand etc etc.. but for this brief moment in time, I will enjoy being ahead of Chelsea (as a measuring stick against a top team). Bournemouth climb to 11th overnight.

I hate football.
Fulham have now dropped 5 points to Burnley, 2 to Sheffield and 3 to Forest.
Useless pricks.
So Fulhamish to drop all those gimmee points and then beat Arsenal, Man U and Spurs
Hard to believe for sure, you guys have had some great results.
-
And that, I think, is the premier league decided.
-
What a horrendous week it's been for Liverpool. First the collapse at Old Trafford, then a disaster at home to Atalanta before getting done today too.
Great performance from the Villa too. Could easily had a couple more if the post hadn't come to Arsenal's rescue twice.

Agree. City will not lose from here.
-
Yeah, it all looked so promising at half time against Utd!
Klopp’s time going out with a whimper.
Worst form at the worst time.
It does feel like the title race only has one team in it now.
City are ruthless at this time of year.
But they get an easy ride. Villa rest lots of players against them and get spanked. Play a full team at arsenal and win 2-0.
They never have any bad decisions against them.
None.
But get plenty in their favour. The Doku non penalty and the Palace non penalty just in the last 3 weeks. Those alone have probably given them 4 points while denying Liverpool 2 points in the process. (Of course they may have still have won at palace even if they were 2-0 down.
Of course, the top side always seems to get unconscious bias( like in the fergie years) but this is on another level entirely.
It’s very hard to compete with that across 38 games, because you feel as though you have to win every game just to keep up.
Look at today - 1 defeat and the title feels like it is gone.
No wonder Klopp is fucking off! 😂
-
@DaGrubster You sound like every paranoid football fan in the world! Agree that City got lucky with Villa's squad rotation but every fan seems convinced that their team get all the bad decisions and that other teams get favouritism.
-
Yeah, I know. Lots of fan’s thinks there are dark forces moving against their club!
In truth it only takes a few of those types of sliding doors moments to impact a season.
It is just unusual that they just never get those decisions go against them.
And I will leave it there. Don’t want to derail this thread!
-
@DaGrubster Agreed. I saw the FA Cup draw announced by a Newcastle journo on Twitter (Newcastle away to City) and lots of fans replying that the draw was rigged against them.
Bit early to call the title race over with just a 2 point gap and the Arse having a better goal difference. I know City don't generally drop points in April and May but they are looking much shakier at the back than previous seasons.
UCL first legs were all good games and none of them decided which should make for an exciting week. Hard to pick the final 4 without the away goals rule.
Congratulations to Bayer Leverkusen, winning their first ever title with 5 games to spare. They sold their best player (Moussa Diaby) and their biggest transfer in was Nathan Tella from Southampton.
