I've just been watching the Aotearoa Rugby Pod. Did Justin Harrison drop a hint that the Jahrome Brown will be joining the Chiefs next year? I would be happy to have been back in the Waikato squad too.
In the SMH a couple of days ago:
Still on the Brumbies, the losses of Tamati Tua (Exeter) and Jahrome Brown (back to New Zealand with the Chiefs) will be felt next year.

I imagine that @Duluth could provide some stats, but my feeling is that Vaa'ii is a bit of a suitcase type player.
Now that the regular season is over in SR, according to the stats on super.rugby he's among the best locks running around in NZ. And those stats encompass attack (like metres run, amount of carries, passes, offloads, defenders beaten), defence and lineout work.
Strange on the other hand is literally fourth quintile...

Straight to the AB 23 then.
I've been quietly impressed by Vaii - our ruck work and lineout haven't been half as creaky as I imagined they would be.

Vaii has been for quite awhile a very good SR player.
Yes he hasn't taken a lot of that form into the international game where I guess most people judge him and write him off, but as an SR player he's always been reliable and efficient for a couple of years now.
Hopefully this year he makes the step up in the international arena.

I think he's played considerably better this year than in the past and stepped up in quite a few areas, taking over Brodie Retallick's excellent work in the loose. Question marks remain about his effectiveness at the breakdown but we'll see!

@Windows97 The thing to remember about Vaai is that he is only 24. His best years as a Lock should still be ahead of him.

Commiserations chiefs fans, despite reaching the final we have looked off the pace throught the season, so who will be leaving Thompson? Stevenson? And who should we target next year. I felt lock and backup props were out biggest weakness and get backup hookers who can throw straight in the lineout, in the outside backs id like to see us sign codemeru Vai from sevens he is ten times the player coomble fabling is

Stevenson has been incredibly disappointing.
We’d be better with ENS at 15 I think.
For next year, a better back up 7, some fit locks and a better backup hooker (assuming we lose Thompson).
I think we over achieved this year after some of the injuries we’ve had. Fuck me, we had Tupou at lock (he went well, but he’s hardly good enough for anywhere except MP).

Said this a while back but from what I've heard, Leroy Carter is joining the Chiefs next year.
Halfback or wing?
Stevenson is signed until 2025. He had such on-off season with injuries/concussion that it affected his form.
I would think that Florence is also gone with Brown signed. If Sanerivi is to be the 3rd hooker he needs to get regular playing time at NPC level, presumably for Auckland. He was only the no.3 hooker at Taranaki, and sometimes played at flanker.
The final showed the absence of the likes of Retallick and Cane to provide that hard edge. 2023 was more of a missed opportunity.
