Blues 2024

I would be interested in what people think about Rieko's form this year. I am not sure what to make of him. I will admit to not watching him closely this season so I had half an eye on him last night. I was hoping for a bit more from him now that he has had a few seasons at centre but he still looks like he is playing out of position to me.
If I am reading Blues MOTM polls correctly he has yet to earn a point. Hell, even Christie has a point.

He’s playing the most like a centre he ever has. For a guy who’s not supposed to have a good passing game, he certainly passing well this season.
Attacking wise, he’s not pushing the pass, is happy to straighten and set up a ruck. Defence has been very good.
Not scoring trys is irrelevant if he’s setting up his outsides, which he is.
Look how much space our wingers are being put into.
-
Ok cool. I will watch him more closely. Like I said I haven't been keeping a close watch on him. Maybe I saw him at the wrong times last night.
-
From what I’ve seen of the Blues he’s been solid and is doing a centres job which is great to see. A bit like Proctor for the Canes, you definitely notice when he’s not there. Two top centres in New Zealand by a long way atm. Can’t wait for that matchup in a couple weeks.
-
@Crazy-Horse Rieko's having a better Super season in 2024 than he did in 2023.
What I like is he's not trying to force the play. He's taken what is offered. Some wonderful passing displayed in earlier games.
-
@KiwiMurph a sign of him maturing.
-
@Canes4life Yeah,we saw when Rieko went off against the Tahs that we lost a bit of direction out wide on both attack and defense.
Just having him out there is key to how we want to play at both ends.
-
@African-Monkey a good centre is just important as a 10 these days IMO. Umaga-Jensen showed yesterday how much of a drop from Proctor he is now, just a complete loose canon on attack and defence. Who would be the Blues centre if Reiko goes down? Heem?
-
@Canes4life Lam played 13 vs Crusaders when Rieko had a week off with HIA. He had a Serviceable game.
Would like to see young Grindlay get some minutes for Blues in midfield.
-
@KiwiMurph oh really, wouldn't have picked that. I thought Lam was purely a winger. Yeah Grindlay looks like a player with plenty of potential, maybe more opportunity next year? I wonder if Reiko will take a sabbatical at all?
-
@Canes4life Apparently he is next year according to our source @Nogusta who hasn't been sighted in a little while.

I wouldn’t use the poll results to make a negative point about a player. They only catch the top 3
A couple of years ago GCT had a great season, easily one of the Blues best. However he barely made the top 3 in any game but got 4th, 5th & 6th loads of times

Not meaning it to be negative. I really like the bloke as a player and hadn't really noticed him this season - mainly because I haven't watched too closely. That's why I asked the question and also why I looked at the polls to see if I missed anything.
-
Every question asked about a player is assumed to be parochial, rhetorical and negative. It's more engaging that way.

I was talking specially about the polls: ’Hell, even Christie has a point’
You were assuming people not getting points are playing bad. There’s been very few dud games from any players so far. Top 3 is often try scorers, players involved in big moments etc. You can play consistently well and miss out on that
The polls measure something but they can't tell you anything negative
