Jonathan Sexton's conduct
-
Sexton was an injured spectator for todays European Cup Final.
He still managed to get involved in handbags at half time with the opposition coach/players in the tunnel and went after the ref (Jaco Peyper) again post match.
His on field conduct has left a lot to be desired for quite a while, feigning injury, arm waving to draw penalties/cards and constantly back chatting to refs.
A very good player , who I think will not be remembered fondly bar on his own shores. He is the national teams captain for god sake.
He needs to wind his neck in.

O Gara was sporting a mark under his eye during post match interview.......not sure if he was involved in a schmozzle. Himself and Sexton have previous......

If Sexton was guilty of misconduct, the only reasonable thing to do is to ban him from rugby for the rest of the year 😄
-
@canefan so harsh!
I'd let him play again from October 29... -

Sexton taking inspiration from this incident perhaps ?

Some of those Irish guys come across as utter twats. Sexton chief among them.

I think it’s since they got over the AB aura and actually won. They seemed ok before then.
Actually no, BOD was always a cock, thank god he never beat the All Blacks.

I absolutely loathe their contrived on-field culture and antics. Fucking awful to watch and the antithesis of what the game should be about.
-
If you watch the end of game highlights , Lowe essentially walks off the pitch as La Rochelle kick it out. Lowe is almost off the pitch and down the tunnel before the ball is out of play. Their attitude absolutely stank.

No. Irish have been prats since at least Peter Stringer.

@booboo the seagull...

It really would be quite beautiful if Sexton was to fuck up Irelands World Cup preparations through being an entitled dick. He has got away with it for so long it surely has to catch up on him sometime.
-
if anything was to come of it, surely it would have by now.
Surely with WR HQ in Dublin, thier influence over WR has surpassed what even we once had
-
You’d have to think that Peyper would have put something in his match report but maybe downplayed as emotions at the end of a big game. Sexton will likely get away with a sternly worded email. Not even sure what they could do to a non player.
However, if it was a lack of evidence that held things back….. -
@Crucial I can't find the article anymore, but I read last night that there is footage of him spewing "Your a f*cking disgrace" at Peyper, including the finger pointing. Apparently the powers that be are now considering that footage. The article also mentioned that Peyper had only heard part of what Sexton said, but they were now checking with his ARs to find out if they had heard it.

Captain of the No 1 side in the world, and you behave like that.
It also goes to show how critical Ref's interpretations are perceived to be by players that generates a reaction like that. And the reports seem to be that if anything Leinster got the rub of the green on the night ... so a properly unbalanced rant!
-
If that was park footy, you'd be getting 4-6 weeks/games

I've seen junior rugby coaches banned for 6 weeks for less

Trying to work out how light a sentence they can give him without drawing too much fuss

Would be a shame for World Rugby not to have its best players and stars at the RWC
Would be a disgrace for World Rugby to have this player at the RWC

If he misses out, and I don't think he will totally miss out, anything less than being stood down for the group phase would seem a weak move IMHO. And before the Irish fans complain, they should remember he did it to himself
-
I would like to see larger fines, for players and clubs (maybe make them a % of earnings)
Not sure this reflects well on anyone, WR included given how long it took to sort out
-
Weak punishment. Abuse of officials should be in the months, not weeks
-
Pathetic and predictable

A quick google shows that similar incidents in NZ club rugby are around 8 to 12 weeks

He got a slap on the wrist with a wet bus ticket, as expected
-
I see lots of gloating from Irish fans on FB. I hope they go down in a screaming heap at QF time
-
World Rugby's HQ is in Dublin so their decision was always going to be weak.
-
@Bovidae worried the locals would block the gin deliveries!
-
This chap is the biggest bell end in world rugby these days. A spoiled little whinger.

He could've doid!
Whoops, wrong one
-
World Rugby HQ love Jonny Sexton and the boys in Green. Absolutely no surprise to me that he was given such a gentle slap across the wrist.
We can expect the referees at the World Cup to give every 50:50 decision for the Irish as well.

Come on, let’s not get all GAGR around here eh?
-
You could sympathise with the 2007 players and officials wanting to string Barns up by his ginga ballsack, but to the best of my knowledge none of them said a word to him. This is despite many of them having had their World Cup dreams destroyed forever. They showed restraint and class. And despite us being accused as whingers, I'd hate to see the response from certain other nations and/or individuals if the same thing happened.
This response is pissweak. I've always been sickened by the way soccer players act towards the ref and it will get that way in rugby if they don't crack down harder.

It wasn't a World Rugby decision. WR doesn't have jurisdiction in European Professional Club Rugby (ECPR) cases and it was a decision of an independent Disciplinary Committee.
