we're sort of halfway through this longer season. 23 games means you need 13 wins to make finals (12 and a draw might get you in, but i wouldn't want to rely on that).
Which means the teams on 8 wins are basically penned in, and that's 6 spots
Then it gets tight. Adelaide and the Bulldogs only need to go 5-5 from here out. BUT, the three teams behind them on 6 wins (Geelong, Freo, GC) have an extra game left.
Everyone below them would need to go on a tear to get in, including Sydney, who are probably the only other semi-realistic (mathematically at least) chance. Everyone else needs to go at least 7-3 from here out, which would be a pretty significant change in form.If Geelong can get fit, then i pick them to jump in to the 8, but the other 7 teams who are already there to stay.

...i swear to go if Powerhouse hadn;t won on sat i would have been pissed ot have missed that swannies game...double century?! i know it was only WA but
- we havent exactly been on fire recently
- i know its happened before but not often!
-
Watched a quarter and a bit of Crows v Kangas.
Nice win (assume we didn't ship 12 goals in the last 4 minutes).
And in the 8.
When we did start to not be useless?
Also, apart for Tex and Sloane, who are these people?
-
Even comp
Collingwood obviously the best side. Rest of the top 4 very even, though the Lions are weak as piss and have obviously developed a fatal allergy to the 'G
Then 5th to 15th varying levels of average, but all still a mathematic chance of playing finals. how? Do the Saints, Bulldogs, Bombers and Adelaide just keep losing? Before i went away they were all but safe? Fucking GWS and Carlton are suddenly in the mix? What happened? -
Richmond with a huge last quarter comeback against the Hawks (not that it should've required that sort of effort)
Here's hoping next week the Saints leapfrog Carlton (who should never be in the top eight).

lol this post aged like milk
Since i posted this:
St kilda have gone 2-4 (with small wins against the two reserve grade sides)
Essendon have gone 1-4
Adelaide have gone 1-4
The Bulldogs have gone 3-3
Geelong 2-1-2
Sydney 3-1-2Meanwhile GWS and Carlton have won 5 straight, and Richmond have gone 4-1
Great last few rounds as well, with heaps of games between 9-odd teams aiming for the bottom half of the 8
-
Fuck me. Crows fuck Port up royally in Show Down.
wtf?
-
Top 3 all lose!
Fun year
-
deadset this is the weirdest season
As above, the top 3 all lost. Melbourne, the Saints, GWS and Carlton all got wins. The Dogs lost, the cats lost. Richmond lost when a win would have got them well in to the 8. Essendon lost.
With four games to go, there are still 14 or maybe even 15 teams that are thinking they can play finals.
And fuck knows who wins the whole thing. Nothing would surprise me this year.

so, was back in NZ last week...hence not going to the game on sat...but went from 9 out of 9 last weekend to 4 out of 9 this week...tipping is hard!

@booboo yeah, my 4 included at least 1 smoky as im trying to claw my way back into contention
i thought 4 was decent given the carnage!
-
@mariner4life yeah, im happy with it as 2 seems pretty common around the office...i just mean you can't tip safe as there seems to be upsets every week

Buddy retires. Sad end, probably played a year too long.
A true great of the game, and that contract was worth every penny for Sydney despite no flags.
The scenes when he kicked his 1,000th goal were awesome.
2 Flags
4 Colemans
8 All Australians
Goal of the year twice.Freak

Going to be a wild few weeks to end the season. There's 14 or 15 teams who can conceivably make the 8, and it seems like every game has implications for the finals.
And with the top three losing (and losing badly), it really feels like the title is up for grabs.
Carlton look amazing, and I can't wait to see how they will fck it up from here and finish 9th. They have to beat two of St Kilda, Melbourne, Gold Coast and GWS, which on current form they should do but they just have a knack of building your hopes up only to ruin you at the last moment.
-
I don't know what the fuck happened at Carlton. They sucked, and their coach was getting sacked. They couldn't score, and they were out of finals contention
Then they got handed Gold Coast on one of their frequent off days, pumped them, then used the bye to sort their shit out. They've had a soft draw for the last couple of months, but they have also beaten the top 2 sides. And they are kicking scores.
In this weird fucking season the odds are probably the same for them making the GF or finishing 9th.

sad when things peter out like this, deserved to sign off after a finals run yeah, probably should have done it after the GF last year, i think a GF and his 1000 goal last year revived a bit of passion his body just coulnd't back up

I don't think they were as bad as the losing streak suggested. Their accuracy in front of goal was atrocious, and all that needed was a slight boost to get things moving. And their defence has really improved, as well as their tackling and intensity around the contest.
The talent was there, and finishing 12th or worse would be a huge underperformance. So it's nice to see them on a run, but it's also where they should have been all along I think.

@barbarian I don’t know, during that run of losses they had absolutely no speed across halfback and the midfield.
They have found a new gear and their confidence with a guy kicking bags has been contagious.
Not a huge Blues fan but I’ve always liked Vossy
