Glad I got to see our golden period, coz we’ve come crashing back to our usual mediocre rubbish cricket pretty quickly.
From Black Caps to Black Craps in a very short time. Might have to start watching reruns of the last CTC cycle instead

We can always take comfort knowing we won the first ever WTC.
If anyone can find any more straws to clutch at I’m all ears.
Oh, there’s one, we’re 21/3 now, so were England and look how they turned out !!!!

Young nicks off yet again good ball by Anderson but Young completely lost his off stump again.
I mentioned a few days ago England would have his measure.
Young has a big weakness to anything on off stump to 5th stump on a good length.Andersons forms since turning 40 is quite obscene.
I wonder if Paddles is sitting at home wishing he’d played for a bit longer and pushed for 500 wickets at 21 ?
Bowlers at that age are supposed to break, lose form etc. Why is Anderson bucking the trend like this ?
685 wickets at 25.86, he’s gone from good to very good to great.

So far so good from Latham and Nicholls.
Re Paddles, I have a vague memory of some sort of surgery or health scare not long after his retirement, so he probably timed it right. Biggest handbrake back in the day was probably one home test series, three matches max per summer... weather allowing.
Anderson may have quietly discovered a fountain of youth.

Yeah not saying Anderson is quite in Paddles class but he’s a damn sight closer than he was a few years back. Excellent player.
Google tells me Paddles turned 39 during his last test, I could have sworn he played after 40……
Anyway, Latham gone but we have two guys with very good records ( on paper ) still to come.
Big mountain to climb though.
A bit of drizzle out my way too and looking ominous.

When does the test start? Because this is no test for England. Easy money.

the game was closer in Mt Maunganui.
FFS though, we are a distant second here. It may well be Wagner's last test too, and would be a shitty way to send him off. KJ's injury was monstrous for us; he should have troubled the Root/Brook axis of evil. Henry aside, we looked ineffective with the ball after half an hour.
Still, on the bright side we had a long way to fall. England's rise has basically mirrored our plummet

I see we have lost a few wickets but the bulk of the batting in this team is in the mid-lower order.
From here these two just need to settle in and if they can both get big hundreds we may eak out a small lead. Either that or be close enough to the England total.
That way if we bowl well in the third innings we can chase a small total in the fourth.

We are now getting destroyed.
Pope is some fielder in close, but still. FFS.
Indeed. The follow on looks a million miles away and really, what are the odds of Blundell getting any sort of decent score twice in a row ?
This is some depressing shit.
Looks like FIVE consecutive losses to the same side that got fucked up the arse by Australia barely a year ago.
