India v Aus

Green is finally out. He's a fantastic player already and will only get better.
Not if Australia doesn’t stuff him around like every other all rounder of the past 15 years….

Kohli gets his ton at long long last.
And Lyon is up to 58 overs in the innings. Wow. Australia have India 455/5 and with only 4 1/2 sessions to go, India are not going to lose barring a catastrophe.
Australia could have a tricky few sessions to survive on Day 5. Will be fascinating.

It’s not Australia’s fault that Shane Watson and Mitch Marsh weren’t up to it.
Green would need to bowl more to really be classed as a top all rounder

18 overs in the 4th test not enough?
I’m just talking in general. 63 wickets in 50 First class games indicates to me he’s not a frontliner. Still, bloody young and plenty of time to ease into this role I guess.

Watson was a goodish all rounder but not a great top 3 player. Batting average of 35.19 bowling of 33.68. It looks good next to one of the premiere all rounders of the same time Flintoff: 31.77 batting and 32.78 bowling (Flintoff with a lot more wickets though)
Again, not a great top 3 player. But him playing at the top of the order allowed Aussie to pick Hussey at 6 and gave the same balance to the side, 5 specialist batsmen and an all rounder in the top 6

Australia haven’t had a great all rounder since Keith Miller. He was one of the best of all time. Benaud, Davidson and Lindwall were all decent “bowlers who could bat” much like Paddles.
A true all rounder is definitely handy but it never stopped the Windies from dominating in the 80s ( closest they had was Malcolm Marshall with a handy ten test 50s )

Very different things
He was 'up to it' but wasn't 'a great'

Fair call. I judge Aussie players to much higher standards than other teams.
Watson was unfairly compared to Kallis which was just ridiculous.
Easy for teams to become obsessed though, I remember some of the donkeys that England tried out when Botham was injured or suspended. A real roll call of mediocrity.

Kallis was being compred to Sir Garfield Sobers - Watson being in that discussion is insane. Kallis could have made it with bat or ball, he was ridiculous for a very very long time.

Low scoring ODI number 1 last night.
India relatively comfortable win to lead 1-0.
Aus again showing an inability to bat time - rolled for under 190 with nearly 15 overs to spare. The Aus run rate was actually fine.
Rahul with a good score for India - you wonder if the test team might contemplate him as a keeper and batting lower order with no Pant around.

Yeah, I always wondered why he was seen as a top order player when he was a devastating hitter of the ball, but technically not great when the ball was moving a bit. Hussey was a specialist finisher though, like a rich mans Bevan, so that does make sense. I do feel Watson could have been more successful at 6 though.

I was watching Mitch and Smith looking comfortable last night, surprised to see they got rolled so cheaply in the end. India must have been nervous at 39/4 though!

Indeed. One of the best batsmen of all time and a good bowler to boot. SAs greatest ever in my opinion.

Starc bowling Aus into a match winning position here. Wonderful pace swing bowling.
After the complete capitulation last game, I have zero expectations.
