Sanix World Rugby Youth Tournament
Jianguo High School 3 - 76 Hamilton BHS
Brooksby Melton College 14 - 29 Napier BHS
There's at least one game, tomorrow:Tuesday 2 May 2023
New Plymouth BHS v Auckland Grammar School - 12.15pm (sports exchange) -
Today's other results from the Sanix tournament were:
Kyoto Seisho High School (Kyoto) 10 - 24 Keio High School (Kanagawa)
Hotoku Gakuen High School (Hyogo) 17 - 36 Saga Technical High School (Saga)
Higashi Fukuoka High School (Fukuoka) 17 - 12 Tenri High School (Nara)
Seoul National University High School (South Korea) 0 - 51 Downlands College (Australia)As this is another tournament with only 3 pools the best 2nd-placed team will make the SF. We'll find out who that is when the SF draw is announced.
I watched the Hamilton BHS game. Jianguo High School is the weakest team in the pool so most of the regular starters were on the bench until late in the 2nd half. 29-3 at HT. At least it wasn't raining today.
I've only seen the Hamilton HBS games but have noticed that all players in the Japanese schools and the Chinese Taipei team wore headgear. That must be mandatory.

Hamilton BHS and Napier BHS have been drawn to play each other in one of the Sanix SFs tomorrow (4:40 pm NZT). The other SF is between Saga Technical High School and Higashi Fukuoka High School. The rules say that the SF draw is decided by a lottery and you can't play a team from your own Pool (Hamilton BHS and Saga were both in Pool B). 30 min halves now.

Final: Hamilton BHS 28 - 22 Higashi Fukuoka HS
I've got to say that Hamilton BHS was a little lucky in the final. They were up 21-3 playing with the wind and then conceded a try just before HT so it was 21-8 at the break. In the 2nd half they rarely got out of their own half and seemed to be on the wrong side of the ref at times, combined with some poor discipline. A late length of the field try sealed the win while being behind 22-21.
Higashi Fukuoka High School was definitely a big step up from the other Japanese schools and defended very well. That said, Hamilton BHS butchered 3 tries with poor final passes. They also played the SF and final without their top lock (Tama Hodgson) so hopefully he is ready to go for the Super 8.
The other results today were:
11th/12th place
Jianguo High School (Chinese Taipei) 57 - 12 Seoul National University High School (South Korea)9th/10th place
Brooksby Melton College (England) 26 - 24 Kyoto Seisho High School (Kyoto)7th/8th place
Downlands College (Australia) 26 - 22 Hotoku Gakuen High School (Hyogo)5th/6th place
Keio High School (Kanagawa) 20 - 26 Tenri High School (Nara) -

WCS scored 100+ pts so you wonder why they even decided to play this game given the relative strengths of both teams.
