Fantastic batting by Mitchell great positive batting.
If he can get to 69 he will break Conway record of the fastest NZ to 1000 test runs.
This is Mitchell’s 18 th innings,Conway did it in 19 innings earlier today. That's incredible. I would have put Conway well ahead of Mitchell, but in fact they are about equal in terms of runscoring.

Conway is no doubt a gun.But Mitchell has been really good for NZ since he got a shot.
4 hundreds and 5 50's in 17 innings before today and a average of 62.70 -

Pakistan into negative mode now. Bowling round the wicket outside leg. Has dried up the scoring but doesn't look dangerous.
Actually he's a left armer so bowling over the wicket. Still pretty negative stuff but it is working to slow the scoring.

Blundell goorne LBW for 47. Rather out. Had some luck.
11 short of evens.
Kane on 98...
Snicko suggests inside edge.
Blundell didn't refer.
Was a low amplitude snicko though.
Almost justice getting out when not out for a truly terrible innings!

I dont really expect NZ to pass 300 once this series, so I'd say game over already.
Although I'd say a 0-2 ws odds on anyway, so no big hot take.
May be being too pessimistic, but they've earned by pessimism this last 12 months.
I might just leave this here.

I think I'd rather be in Pakistan's position in the game, at the moment.
Still, probably NZs best performance for about a year.
Really ?
I almost don’t want to say too much for fear of jinxing so perhaps I won’t…..
But to back up your point our attack is definitely a bit popgun with only half our wonderful pace bowling quartet actually playing I’ll give you that.
At the girls family beach house and to my immense surprise they have Sky here !!!!! 6pm start is brilliant too ( provided I don’t have it on too loud to disturb others )
I think an afternoon nap could be in order so I have enough energy to stay up late and watch……huge first session to start with, can’t wait !

I disagree. Pakistan realised they were going to be played out of the game so they slowed the pace of play with their negative tactics. If we can bat for half of day 4 at a reasonable pace we will have all but played them out of the game. Even more so if we bat 3 sessions, but I'm not sure we have the firepower to bowl them out to win in 5 sessions
-
i get what he's saying. 2 in front, 4 in hand, and starting the day, with the prospect of batting 4th is a precarious spot
It all hinges on the first hour. If we are still in that's great. If we make it to lunch i reckon were in the box seat.

@Rapido said in NZ v Pakistan:
Yeah. 50 to 60 run lead, we lose.
80 to 100, it will be interesting.
120 plus we are in box seat.Sodhi is actually a quite reasonable batter v spin.
Yeah one thing I will say about our spinners is most of them are pretty handy tailend batsmen.

My guess is we're trying to avoid batting last, and they're not bothered whether that's by weight of runs, or weight of time...
I'd say if we we'd do well to lose from here. I think we could be pushing a bit.
