2023 Hawke's Bay Representative Rugby

@Stargazer Excellent to see another Newlands becoming involved as a Hawkes Bay prop. Never forget that famous day where the scoreboard read Hawkes Bay 08 - 06 Wellington when Wellington finished one All Black prop less than they started with where another Newlands featured!
Nik Patumaka was a loose forward at NTOB last season so not sure whether his listing amongst frontrowers is an error or whether he has reinvented himself as a prop, something his bodyshape last year indicated was not remotely possible.
There don't look to be many former NBHS pupils involved. Are they just not up to it or have the gone onto Varsity or other acadamies?

@Nepia Coming home to where Clint played is hardly called annexing.
I was more referencing the fact there are four of them from Whanganui Collegiate in there.
I guess with the Poo having no money these days we're the next option over.
I've always considered Poverty Bay part of our catchment area.

@Nepia Just remembered that Wanganui have been going ok at Under 18s in the Hurricanes region the last couple of years so looks like we might have been picking the cream of those up and thumbing our noses at Darren Larsen in the process!

I really had to check whether it was Clint Newland's son, because they added an "s" to his last name, but it just seems to be a typo. By the way, the two "d"s at the end of his first name aren't a typo!

There aren't too many loosies on this list, so maybe it's a mistake from their social media admin? I didn't see any comments on it on Facebook/instagram.

Many of last year's 1st XV that made the Top 4 Final were year 12s, so many of them will still be at school. I think there will be plenty of motivation to go one better, this year! I saw a photo after the Top 4 (I can't find it anymore) that seemed to suggest that only 5-6 players of that team were leaving, including Gus Brown, Max Ratcliffe, Adam Curren and I think Angus Prout. Can't remember the other(s).

Yep, Poverty Bay and East Coast. They also get players from us if they don't make the NPC squad. Carlos Kemp went very well steering East Coast to the Lochore Cup win!
Maybe Harry Godfrey and Ezra Malo set a new trend for Whanganui players?
Malo also played for Whanganui in the Heartland competition in 2022, despite being in our Academy. -

Malo also played for Whanganui in the Heartland competition in 2022, despite being in our Academy. That's ok as his father Ace(?) played about 500 games for Wanganui over about twenty five years.

The Hawke's Bay Academy challenge looks like Surf to Peak, but without swimming.

Assuming this is the right Joshua Smith ...
spcrugby PLAYER TO WATCH
With a combination of Fijian and Tongan genes there’s no surprise Joshua Smith is a big lad. Until this year he has always played at tighthead prop. However, 18 months ago he knew he needed to make some big changes. He wanted to crack the 1st XV but knew he had to get fitter. So over that time he’s thrown himself into running, gym work and boxing. He now stands as the fittest tight forward in the 1st XV at 6’2” and a lean 110kgs. A 70 minute player now pulling on the number 5 jersey with a huge workrate and one of the first names on the team sheet. He’s played in every 1st XV match this year and currently leads the MVP points tally. It’s safe to say this intelligent young man has knocked his goals out of the park.
Undoubtedly you’ll be seeing hard running and tough defense from him this Saturday but keep an eye on the subtle handing too. Well played Josh. -
Didn't know where else to post this. Still gutted we lost her to the dark side.
legendofmartybanks Hawkes Bay FPC player Amelia Pasikala has headed over to Australia to play league for the Bulldogs U19 team.
Might have to watch her games every week 🔥💪
Shout out to Shannon Nightingale for putting me onto yesterday’s game

Is any of you familiar with the location of the HBRU Training Centre and knows whether it has been damaged?
Also, our Academy team is supposed to play Wellington Academy on Saturday (in Palmerston North), but I somehow can't see that go ahead. Many players are probably busy helping in the clean-up and may not have been able to train. There are more important things than playing a game, at the moment.

Hawke's Bay Academy squad to take on Manawatū Academy on Sat 25 Feb 2023 (at SRI, Palmerston North):
Good squad on paper and in normal times they should be able to beat Manawatū, but how have the events of the last 2 weeks affected them? How many times have they been able to train?I hope the people at Club Rugby will cover this game, so we can get some highlights.

Looking at those photos, I'm not sure Cooper Flanders played. Definitely not in the 6, 7 or 8 jersey.
@Stargazer how tall is Tom Allen? Hopefully the Canes have him in his sights, he looks like a 2m lock from those photos but the other players could be really small.
