@dogmeat England match? Absolutely bizarre to blame the ref when England got given every chance to win as well as kicking a goal Wilkinson would have been proud of.
I was just amused how far out of reality Neville is. It definitely helps paint a picture in other areas....
He's the most reputable football pundit in England, which says a lot of course...
Where on earth did you pull that one from ....
He's got a lot to say and get some good gigs, but I think you'll find most people would put a lot of people ahead of him. Souness, Keane to name a couple.
I'd be tempted to throw Poogash in that list even.
I have no idea who that is .... but I'd certainly put Neville in with Carragher as the worst. They aren't necessarily bad pundits, but their views are blinded by their club allegiances.
Micah Richards, Alex Scott are both better than those two as well.
Keane is my favourite though. A true curmudgeon, just like me.

Fucking joke
Never a penalty
Well taken by Messi
-
Messi converts a questionable penalty to give Argentina a 1-0 lead. No VAR?

Isn't that the kind of howler that VAR should be able to correct?
-
I’ve learnt that rugby fans have no idea what constitutes a penalty in soccer.

It’s not that
-
Great counterattacking goal. Croatia in deep trouble now
-
Croatia are dominating but losing. Badly.
-
An U12s individual pearler puts them up 2-0
Argentina piling it on now

Where did you learn that? Because like two or less people commented on here, a rugby forum.

(combined with ) from the semifinal, probably (comments on the foul v Saka given as penalty)

I wasn't expecting Croatia to leave themselves so open on the break.

2 concentration lapses resulted in 2 goals

Although, not just rugby fans ....

A bit of a brouhaha in the ITV studio. Gary Neville, Roy Keane and Ian Wright all argue that the penalty shouldn’t have been awarded. Their argument being: where could the keeper go? Peter Walton explains that it was a foul because the keeper didn’t make contact with the ball, therefore his positioning led to an obstruction. Had he played the ball, that would be a different matter. The old pros aren’t having it, and continue to rail at Walton, but the former referee stands his ground. In summary: them’s the laws.48 min: Not all the ITV pundits are in lockstep about the penalty award, by the way. On co-comms, both Ally McCoist and Lee Dixon get behind the referee’s decision. Association football: a range of opinions are available.

Croatia creating half chances but Argentina seem to be getting to the 50/50 balls
-
Messi is really doing a DC 2015 at this World Cup. I dont really like Argentina but Messi deserves a medal.
-
Messi magic.
-
On the penalty and the question "where could the keeper go to?", well if he comes out and doesn't get to the ball, then he's in trouble whether is dinked over or dribbled around. And it doesn't matter that Alvarez would not have got to the ball - same as for England's 2nd penalty. VAR won't overturn as it wasn't an obvious error.
The 3rd goal was nicely executed although Gvardiol didn't cover himself in glory. I'd like France to get through to play Argentina as that is the best chance for an exciting final.
-
@KiwiPie as long as France win it. Not a fan of Argentina.

boring. i don't like Argentina but i wouldn't mind seeing Messi win it
of course if they are playing Morocco...
-
Argentina have never lost a WC semi, still.
If they make the top 4, they make the final. 6th time.
(2 out of 5 record in the finals, at this stage)

well I picked France from the outset and have not being let down yet, it gets harder from here of course, but as a long time Messi fan who has had a few Camp Nou visits over the years... I could accept an Argentina win

way to really go out on a limb.

back to back isnt easy..plus you never see a random team winning this either..so unless Morocco does the unthinkable I doubt it will happen either
-
If Argentina do win it will settle the modern-day GOAT debate and the Ronaldo fan bois will go into meltdown. But if Argentina lose (again)...
-
@Bovidae i can't see them beating France without a Messi masterclass. France are big and fast and skillful.
-
Looking at wikipedia, 14 of the 26 in the Morocco squad are diaspora born.

I'm still waiting for a team to get at the Argentinean defenders, but they seem to be doing enough so far.
-
@mariner4life A little concerned about their midfield though. Pretty much dominated by England but size and speed are good attributes and the ability to finish.

But England are actually good. I’d say this England team would beat Croatia, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Netherlands.
-
@ACT-Crusader or they can just be England and not live up to expectations. I think the US midfield was better than England. But agree they dominated the French mid.

I thought that Griezmann was the most influential midfielder in the England-France game. I expect he will do the same against Morocco.

But can they do the business when it counts? Their problems are the same as my club team's problems, they don't seem to be able to identify and nurture a ball playing CAM, someone like Luka Modric who knits everything together and creates chances for the rest of the team. Kane drops back and does it about as well as any of them, only trouble is he is generally the best finisher as well

@Machpants wherever he's from, Maguire is a cockhole still.
I reserve the right to backpedal when Whitelock says something similar next year.

Two changes for France:
Rabiot --> Fofana
Upamecano --> Konate
