And Belgium's "golden generation" crashes to an end with only 1 goal all tournament.
They couldn't hit the side of a barn. Lukaku was extremely wasteful. How many chances does a pro footballer need?

@Crucial or how few people knew the rule, that does seem a bit ridiculous though
One of students tried that this morning, ‘I know I’m late to your class but part of my body was inside the University at the start of class, so I’ m not really late’.
That earned a fantastic reception from the class.
I laughed.
Then marked the little fluffybunny late. -

Yeah. I didn’t know but I dont follow wendyball.
Usually if a rule looks stupid it is.
Can a ball cross “the plane of touch” in the air and come back into play (like a curving kick)?
If the whole ball must cross the line for a goal the this instance look like play on to me.No. Otherwise there would be a squillion goals from corners as they would bend them from behind the goal over the keepers head onto rushing attackers heads.

Totally not out, Anyone arguing that is out has no idea of the rules. There was nothing 'controversial' about the decision at all, the only controversial thing was it kicked ze Germans out. Pisses me off when an obvious, but close, call is blown up as controversial for clicks.
Not fucking out, play on you fluffybunnies -

Not fucking out, play on you fluffybunniesLike hawkeye in tennis, goal line tech actually clarifies things. Pictures don't lie

Not sure Hawkeye in tennis is 100% accurate but it is unbiased so everyone is in the same boat

Who didn't know the rule?
In soccer the line is in.
It's just those who want the rule to be wrong.

The unbiased bit is key. Players rarely argue with it now
-
@Machpants it was definitely worth a VAR check though because of where it was and what it resulted in.
It was fantastic drama as those two matches played out simultaneously and at various points who was in and who was out. I don’t think tonight’s games will have as much drama.

i would have said that was a mile out, apparently the whole sphere of the ball needs to cross the line, not just at ground level though....
That one frame makes a mockery of the current outcome.

I sort of didn’t know the rule. I knew the whole ball had to be out but I thought that meant the part in physical contact with the grass and not the sphere of the ball. I doubt I’m only the person who didn’t have it all clearly worked out.

It's a poor angle. There's a reason they do goal line checks from above

I'm aware of the rule. The issue is the dependency on finding a camera angle that is inconclusive to rule out every other angle showing a clear separation.

I assume hawkeye is automated, as opposed to VAR or TMO. Perhaps they should try to program a computer to do it so no one can argue bias

Fantastic second half drama in both of the early matches
Good on S Korea for beating Portugal and qualifying
Great skills in the second goal
-
Love me a Serbia vs Swiss fixture. Pure grudge match between the Serbs and the countries they raped and pillaged. Not least Kosovo with Xaqiri and Xhaka
-
Well I didn’t think there would be as much drama as the previous night, but that Pool H finish did provide it. Sth Korea played excellent but they were still a chance of being knocked out in the 94th minute of the Uruguay and Ghana match when Uruguay were hot on attack.
Pool G, Brazil are safe no matter what, but all of the other 3 can still make it or get knocked out depending on results.

Nip & tuck and jockeying for 2nd place
Serbia looking the most likely at this stage
