Well cemented in the Olympic qualifying spots too. Only 4 tournaments in but we’d have to crumble and have certain other teams find a run of form to miss out on the top four

@KiwiMurph we asked for some youth a few weeks back and credit to McKenzie he bought some in , i reckon its lifted some of the older guys .
Good watch on whats been a forgetable weekend weather wise locally .

Jorja Miller named the Player of the Final. She had a very good tournament, so well-deserved.
As I said don't watch much 7s, but be christ what I saw of her last week in Hamilton she seems like a superstar in the making!

The bottom of the men's table is interesting, too, because the number of core nations will be reduced to 12 (same number as the women).
The team at the bottom will be automatically relegated, while the numbers 12 - 14 will play a mini-tournament in London - that also includes the winner of the WR Sevens Challenger Series - and only the winner of that mini-tournament will joirn the core nations in 2024.

The lesser ranked teams are all pretty much of a similar standard. You can only admire the efforts of Tonga, for example, as they are ahead of Japan on total World Series points won even though they have only appeared in two tournaments compared to Japan's 5! In addition they average 6 points per tournament (would have been more apart from the Argies scoring two late converted tries to beat them in the bottom eight division in Sydney) which would put them in 11th place overall on average, ahead of core nations Uruguay, Kenya, Spain, and Canada.
Can't see the IRB pushing for the inclusion of such tiny nations, despite their performances, as it would do nothing to increase the overall total number of viewers nor bringing in any semblance of sponsorship revenue opportunities. Looks like they are more than happy to persevere with the abject crap performances from the likes of Japan (and others) etc given the economic clout they bring. -

World Rugby isn't pushing any nation for inclusion. That's not how it works. The inclusion comes from winning the Challenger Series, which is what Uruguay did, last year. Who takes part in the Challenger Series, is determined by performance in regional sevens tournaments. Tonga - as the Oceania rep in the Challenger Series - can become a core nation in 2024, if they manage to win the Challenger Series and then that mini-tournament.
